According to rumors, the next-gen Xbox will be released within the next 2 years. There is supposed to be more than just a new Xbox console.
Following Microsoft’s strong performance at this year’s E3, major announcements continue. The website Thurrott reports that Microsoft is currently working on the next generation of Xbox, set to launch in 2020. This news is supported by anonymous sources.
A whole hardware family planned
During E3 2018, Xbox chief Phil Spencer hinted that they are working on the next generation of Microsoft’s console. He used the plural “consoles.”
If the anonymous source is to be believed, a whole hardware family is in the works. The project is reportedly under the codename “Scarlett.” This is expected to encompass a whole range of hardware.
Several new products are expected to be released by 2020, culminating in the new generation of the Xbox console. The release of the Xbox One X was not long ago, so a release in 2020 seems unusual.
Does Microsoft even have the resources for this? The rumor could fit with the latest news. As revealed at E3 2018, Microsoft now owns 5 new developer studios. This would at least provide enough capacity to work with other teams on the new console generation.
Enjoy with caution! This is merely a rumor, and you should treat the information accordingly. There are no official plans from Microsoft regarding the future of Xbox.
Perhaps in the cloud: Will Xbox Next come without traditional console hardware?
