The German Twitch streamer Staiy is one of the loudest critics of the platform. Now he reports how much money the controversial competitor Kick is offering him and why a switch is not an option for him.
What is Kick all about? The streaming platform was announced in December by Tyler “Trainwreck” Niknam, who has been successful with casino streams, stating that Twitch has lost touch with reality.
The CEO of the controversial online casino Stake is also involved in Kick. The announcement of the new platform came just a few weeks after Twitch had implemented new regulations for gambling. Stake was also affected by the restrictions.
Since then, Kick has been enticing content creators with lucrative contracts and a 95% share of the revenue from paid subscriptions. The new competitor is particularly attractive for those who are not “brand friendly” enough for the established platforms and are more often facing bans.
What is the current development? Many content creators are dissatisfied with Twitch and openly state so: Whether it’s the unfair sub-split, the seemingly unjustified bans, or the new guidelines for sponsored content.
Kick plays into this development: On their official Twitter account, they are already mocking that Twitch is employee of the month. Now the German Twitch streamer Staiy reports on the aggressive tactics being used to poach streamers.
Kick on a big shopping spree
What was the offer? Kick had already come up with a new financial incentive in January to compete with Twitch. Instead of the annual deals common on other platforms, Kick is offering an hourly wage for streamers (via Sportskeeda).
Now Kick seems to want to take advantage of the current dissatisfaction to lure streamers with lucrative offers. As Staiy reports, he received emails from 3 agencies offering him a significantly higher hourly wage than he had previously seen in comparable posts.
The exact amount is not disclosed by the streamer, but he mentions a “hypothetical offer” of $750. While that is not the actual number, it is still “a very high number.” We have included a clip from the stream here:
Staiy wants no deal with the devil
So why is he still on Twitch? This question was also posed to the streamer by a viewer. However, Staiy explained why the offer is not an option for him.
- The streamer says that Kick can make these offers because they are financed by casino money. He wants nothing to do with that: “That is blood money.” Staiy even speaks of the devil extending his hand.
- One of the figureheads of Kick is former Twitch streamer Adin Ross, who has recently drawn attention through controversial statements. Staiy criticizes that he can share his “misanthropic views” almost unmoderated on Kick.
- Staiy says it’s not just about the money. For the streamer, that is probably not a big incentive anyway.
The streamer is aware that the amounts offered are life-changing for many people, who might never have to work again. However, for many large content creators, it is already no longer about that; they already have the money: “It’s just about greed and desire.”
Staiy explains that he discussed the offer publicly so that his viewers would know what is going on in the streamer scene. Such offers are likely now on the table for many large content creators, and he is very curious to see who will ultimately be drawn to Kick.
Speaking of greed: MontanaBlack, one of the largest streamers in Germany, has already received a lucrative offer from Kick. The double-digit million amount was not enough for the 35-year-old to risk his good reputation, but he has hinted at how much they would have to offer him:
