The Twitch streamer Kevin “Papaplatte” Teller is primarily known for his extravagant way of expression. He discussed who has influenced him in this regard and whether he sees himself as an influence on the youth.
Who is it about? The Twitch streamer Papaplatte is known not only for his entertaining livestreams but also for his extraordinary language. He stands out from other streamers mainly due to his way of expression, as he uses a lot of Anglicisms.
His almost unique language is so well-known that Pro7 hired a translator for a show in which Papaplatte appeared as a joke.
In a SPIEGEL interview, the Twitch streamer provides a somewhat private insight into his life. In a reaction to it, on YouTube, Papaplatte talks about who influenced him in his youth.
“Has shaped me and my youth extremely”
Who has shaped Papaplatte? DER SPIEGEL proposes, among other things, the theory that Papaplatte shapes the youth language through his way of expression. In this regard, the Twitch streamer states that he does not feel he influences others.
Instead, he cites himself and his influences as an example: He was influenced in his youth by YouTubers such as Nico “Inscope21” Lazaridis or the Twitch streamer Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris. Particularly regarding Inscope21, Papaplatte says: “Nico has shaped me and my youth extremely” (via YouTube).
According to Papaplatte, especially MontanaBlack has an influence on how the youth would speak. He also mentions the Twitch streamer Dan-Raven “xTheSolution”, who is in contact with many other streamers and thus has his influence.
Finally, Papaplatte also lists the former YouTube trio ApeCrime as an influence and shaping factor in his youth.
However, Papaplatte excludes himself from this enumeration. He does not believe that he has or had the same influence on the youth as the content creators he mentioned.
How does the community react? Some of the comments under the YouTube video contradict Papaplatte. For them, the Twitch streamer has indeed exerted an influence on them and their use of language:
- @rainbowtears1050 writes: “I have to honestly say that I (w22) watch you daily and my language usage has increasingly adapted to yours. Right now, “that’s shit” is the most present.”
- @dragbabert says: “Kevin, I think you completely underestimate your influence!!!”
- @catex5452 also contradicts Papaplatte’s opinion: “I definitely notice in myself and other Papaplatte viewers that Kevin strongly influences our language usage.”
Twitch streamer Papaplatte has had an impressive career so far. Before becoming a full-time streamer, he studied. At that time, he asked on the platform Reddit whether he should finish his studies or go all-in on Twitch: 18-year-old asked strangers whether he should continue studying or stream on Twitch – today we know how it turned out
