The German e-sports organization GamerLegion has signed 5 women on September 23 to form a team in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO, now Counter-Strike 2): A 20-year-old Irish woman was fired on September 25 for racist comments. A 22-year-old Dutch woman also left on September 26 after accusations arose that she was caught cheating and had ‘only become a woman to continue playing CS:GO.’
Who has GamerLegion signed?
- The team had hired 5 women who had played for Astralis W in May 2023, operating under the name ‘Let Her Cook.’
- The plan was for the women to compete as ‘GL Prism’ for GamerLegion in the Impact League.
- But just 2 days later, GamerLegion had to terminate one of the women, 20-year-old Irish KittyTM, due to chat messages that surfaced in which she had made racist remarks.
Counter-Strike 2 is currently the dominant topic in gaming:
Second woman leaves the team just 3 days after signing
This is the new development: A second of the new players has already left GamerLegion on September 26: 22-year-old Luna ‘ManeschijnX.’ She had won the IESF Women’s World Championship in September with Netherlands fe, a prize worth $40,000.
The former CS:GO professional player Esmee Pauw (25, also from the Netherlands) had raised allegations on Twitter against her, claiming that ManeschijnX had hacked under the name ‘Bentas’ and had been banned by FACEIT and in other Benelux events.
Ex-e-sports player accuses the player of only identifying as a woman to continue playing CS:GO
Pauw states that the player changed her gender and ‘became a woman’ to play in a women’s league, allowing her to continue playing professional CS:GO. Furthermore, Pauw says Bentas has made openly transphobic remarks on Steam.
According to Pauw, she forwarded this information with evidence to GamerLegion. She says she is 100% sure that ManeschijnX is Bentas, although Bentas has desperately tried to delete all evidence (via twitter):
If you understand the story, you will see how ridiculous and easy it is for a man to join a women’s e-sports organization just by identifying as a woman.
What does the accused say? She announced on September 26 that she is leaving the team due to the ‘current events.’ She thanks GamerLegion for their support and assurance that she is cooperating with ESL and FACEIT in the ongoing investigation.
