The successful German survival game Enshrouded received its biggest update yet on November 5th. The focus is also on taming and breeding animals. This seems to please many players, as the game now has almost 40,000 players per day.
Why is the update special? The update, titled “Souls of the Frozen Frontier”, brought a wide range of new content and changes and thus represents the most comprehensive update for Enshrouded so far.
In addition to an increase in the maximum level, the expansion of the game world, as well as new dynamic weather conditions and a new biome, new animals have also entered the world of survival success – bringing features that are often requested by the community.
What features are they? These animals are not only intended to make the game world livelier but are also tamable and represent a major focus of the update. For example, you can now keep cats and dogs in various colors as pets. If you pet your favorite, you will receive buffs – just like in real life.
Additionally, it is now possible to tame non-hostile animals and keep them in your base. If you give them enough food and shelter, they will have offspring after some time, allowing you to build your own breeding.
First player increase since peak performance after release
What are the numbers after the update? These new features seem to have struck a chord with particularly many players. Since the release of the update, the player numbers have steadily increased and are now at a new peak of 38,053 (as of November 11th at 10:30 AM, according to steamdb.info), which corresponds to an increase of nearly 463% compared to the previous month. Thus, Enshrouded currently has about 5 times more players than in previous months.

Last time Enshrouded saw such a significant player increase was at its release on January 24th. At that time, the survival hit recorded a peak of 160,405 players. Since then, there has been no comparable increase in player numbers, indicating that the new features resonate with the community.
However, animal breeding is not the only feature the community desires. The player base of Enshrouded even submitted so many improvement suggestions and wishes that the development team had to put the brakes on: Enshrouded has 2 million players on Steam, with 2,600 suggestions for improvement – the developers have had enough of this
