With the update 6 “Servants of Dusk”, Enshrouded has expanded its game world, apparently with great success. Tens of thousands of players are flocking to the survival game on Steam, which has steadily evolved over the months. For this, it has now received an award from the German Computer Game Award.
What kind of game is this?
- In Enshrouded, you play as a survivor after a magical catastrophe that has unleashed a plague in the world. Everywhere you will find the “Miasma” where dangerous creatures are hiding.
- At its core, Enshrouded is a sandbox survival game where you explore the world, build your base, and fight opponents. There are no fixed classes, but rather skills and puzzles to solve. The game is among the best survival games for PC, PS5, and Xbox.
- On May 14, Enshrouded received a new update, which makes it more rewarding to go outside at night. Consequently, the player count has climbed from 18,000 to nearly 23,000, with a rising trend (via steamcharts).
Why is it the “best game in Germany”? Behind Enshrouded is the developer studio Keen Games from Frankfurt. At the German Computer Game Awards, Enshrouded won both the award for “Best German Game” and for “Best Innovation and Technology” (via DCP).
The prizes are endowed with 100,000 and 40,000 euros respectively. In 2024, the game was already able to take the title of best German game
at the German Developer Award. Enshrouded was released in Early Access on Steam in January 2024 and had to prove itself against Palworld. Nevertheless, it had over 112,000 concurrent players on Steam at launch.
Since the release, the developers have continuously worked on Enshrouded. The game currently stands at 81% positive ratings (recently) and 86% (all reviews), making it “very positive” (via Steam).
Build like in Minecraft in a world reminiscent of Zelda
The main features of Enshrouded are the world along with exploration and the building system. You can discover puzzle towers and travel through different biomes in the world, which visually resembles an enchanted fairy forest.
In many areas, there is the “Miasma”, the magical plague that haunts the land. There you will find the toughest opponents but also particularly good loot – especially at night since the latest update.
Among the most important features are a glider as a means of transport and a building system like in Minecraft. Enshrouded has a voxel world where you can basically mine everything from the earth piece by piece and terraform anew.
These open possibilities create excitement and creativity among most fans. In a monster project, a group has recreated the dwarven city of Erebor from Lord of the Rings – after they had previously created Minas Tirith. And all of this without mods and cheats. Others build underground living caves or their own villages.
