The sandbox MMORPG Albion Online is celebrating its second anniversary. A reason for us to take a look at how the online RPG is currently doing.
Albion Online launched on July 17, 2017, and has been playable on Steam since May 2018. The MMORPG has gone through a lot during this time. Regular content updates have been released, and the team is by no means resting on its laurels.
Albion Online is doing well
How is Albion Online doing today? The MMORPG has been achieving many successes, especially since the transition to the free-to-play model.
The player numbers have exploded. So much so that even the servers were brought to their knees. Moreover, there were heavy DDoS attacks a few weeks ago, which affected the mood of the players.
Nevertheless, the numbers today, on the second anniversary, are still very good, and it can be said that the game is doing really well.
How are the player numbers looking? After the transition to the free-to-play model, the player numbers shot up. At peak times, according to Steam charts, over 13,300 players were online at the same time.
In the meantime, the numbers are dropping a bit again. This is quite normal, as the free-to-play transition attracted many players who wanted to check it out. Not everyone stays.
Moreover, the DDoS attack cost Albion Online many players. The MMORPG was hardly playable, and some players gave up in frustration.
Currently, according to Steamcharts, an average of 3,559 players are online simultaneously. At peak times over the last 30 days, there were 6,157 players. It must be noted that these are only the numbers from Steam. Albion Online can also be played through its own launcher.
However, there are no official figures. Nevertheless, it can be assumed that the total number of players is higher than what is indicated by Steamcharts.
Good mood among the players
What is the current mood like? One can see from the reviews on Steam that the mood in the MMORPG is currently really good. Over the past 30 days, they have climbed to 82%, thus “Very Good”.
Especially the new features from the last update were well received. Players praise that they can now customize their heroes more and that the PvE content – even solo – is now more enjoyable. For many, it is a positive development that Albion Online is moving away from being a PvP-focused game and offers more PvE content.
What does the future hold? The developers already have plans for the upcoming period. Upcoming innovations include:
- The Outlands will be revised
- Players of all levels will get more activities in the open world
- There will be PvP “hotspots”
- The faction wars should be improved
The team at Sandbox Interactive aims to make the third year of Albion Online particularly exciting. Fans can look forward to many innovations and plenty of surprises.
