The Twitch streamer Maurice Weber was able to play the highly anticipated Anno 117: Pax Romana. Initially, about 3.5 hours were planned, but due to a broken recording, he was able to extract a total of 10 hours. In a YouTube video, he shares his impressions, and on his second channel, he even shows the first hour of gameplay.

Who is it about? Maurice Weber has been streaming regularly on Twitch since mid-2022. Here he was the most watched “Manor Lords” streamer in 2024, even ahead of Gronkh. In 2024, he was awarded Player of the Year by the German Computer Game Award.

Broken recording leads to more hours of gameplay
What reason did Maurice Weber use? While most others were allowed to test the game for 3 to 4 hours, such as GamePro, Maurice Weber managed to extend his playtime to a total of 10 hours.
He was able to do the first run at an event in Rome, and he started the second at home. For his new Uncut YouTube channel, Maurice needed gameplay, which he recorded from the demo. However, the recording was broken and according to Maurice, it was “a complete disaster from a professional standpoint” (via YouTube).
On the other hand, he was excited at the same time, because this allowed him to ask Ubisoft if they could give him the opportunity to play the demo again. And behold: Ubisoft agreed to the whole thing, and the Twitch streamer dived back into the construction of Rome.
What are Maurice’s impressions? Overall, the Twitch streamer seems to be thrilled with Anno 117: Pax Romana. He describes the game, as well as the others in the series, as a “feel-good construction sandbox in a historical scenario” (via YouTube).
The Twitch streamer reports on some things that he found positive, including the following:
- With the buildings, it is now possible to align them diagonally, making the entire city seem much more organic.
- There are more buildings with radius effects, both positive and negative. Production buildings would generate more money when they are close to other buildings, as residents buy directly there. Therefore, it’s worth building them in the city. However, farms would have a negative effect if they are too close to other buildings. Thus, some buildings must be built in isolation to avoid negative effects.
- There are island attributes such as happiness, income, population, fire safety, health, prestige, faith, and knowledge. These would have new mechanics and thus unlock new building possibilities.
Rather negatively, Maurice noticed the banality of the quests. They do not offer much challenge as they are kept simple.

There is not yet an official release date for Anno 117: Pax Romana. However, Maurice Weber stated that it is supposed to be available in winter 2025.
