The famous anime RPG Genshin Impact will be 2 years old in September. By then, the developers have reportedly invested 500 million euros in the game. Thus, Genshin Impact is among the most expensive games ever produced.
This is how expensive Genshin Impact is: The developers miHoYo/Hoyoverse started with a budget of 100 million dollars and released the RPG on September 28, 2020. The title is now one of the largest and most popular gacha games.
The plan was to invest another 100 million in the game each year. However, CEO Cai Haoyu stated in an interview with the Chinese magazine 16P that this amount doubled: They invest 200 million dollars annually in Genshin Impact.
Thus, the game reaches total costs of 500 million dollars on its second birthday, soon placing it among the most expensive games ever developed. Often, Star Citizen, an online flight simulator in space, is considered the most expensive game in development. According to the developers, the game has so far cost 400 million. Genshin Impact has thus managed to surpass Star Citizen.

Developers are producing more and more content
After the release in 2020 was a resounding success, the developers regularly brought in new content, updates, and events. Currently, there is a co-op event. They also quickly added new regions, along with more quests.
With the events, there are always new banners and characters that players can obtain during the “wish,” which is the gacha mechanic. Using the currency Intertwined Fates, players draw a character or weapon corresponding to the current banner. New ones appear every few weeks.
With all the content, the developers keep players engaged, leading them to invest more time and money while having fun with the numerous offerings. Some players do not want to spend money and prefer to invest massive time into the game.
How much have the developers made so far? Although Genshin Impact is free to play, miHoYo/Hoyoverse has reportedly earned between 2 and 3.5 billion dollars with the game. However, there are no precise figures from the developers.
