On December 1st, the new prayers will be released in Genshin Impact. These will bring two new characters to the game. In this post, we introduce Zhongli in more detail and reveal his abilities and how you can obtain him.
Who is Zhongli? The new character is likely familiar to fans of Genshin Impact. He has already played a role in the story around Liyue and impressed with his likeable nature. He is reserved and philosophical, which is well received by many on reddit and in our comments.
We already know the following about the playable character Zhongli:
- Element: Geo
- Rarity: 5 stars
- Weapon: Polearm
- Occupation: Director of the funeral service in Liyue

Abilities and Release
What can Zhongli do exactly? On the website Honey Impact, the attributes and abilities of the character have already been gathered through data mining:
- Normal Attack: Performs up to 6 spear stabs
- Charged Attack: Consumes a portion of stamina to jump forward, leaving spears along the jump
- Elemental Skill – Press: Uses Geo power to create a stone pillar. This deals Geo damage to nearby enemies and can be used to block attacks
- Elemental Skills – Hold: Creates an explosion that deals AoE damage and generates a shield of jade that scales with Zhongli’s max HP
- Elemental Burst: Summons a meteor to fall to the ground, causing Geo AoE damage
How to get Zhongli? The character will be part of the new prayer “Departed-Nobility”. This will be released on December 1st at 6:00 PM German time.
The chance of obtaining a 5-star character is typically 0.6%, but increases the more prayers you open. If you obtain a 5-star character, there is a 50% chance it will be Zhongli the first time and a 100% chance the second time. We explain more about the gacha system in our FAQ.
You will also have an increased chance of obtaining Xinyan, Razor, and Chongyun from the prayer. The last two rank in the good midfield of our tier list.
However, you should hurry, as the prayer will be removed on December 22nd at 14:59. Unlike the character Xinyan, Zhongli will not be added to the standard prayer.
Zhongli and Xinyan will not be the last new characters in Genshin Impact. At least 13 more characters are already known.
