The co-op RPG Genshin Impact has published the probabilities for 5-star characters and weapons. Those hoping for the most valuable items must be blessed by luck or open a lot of boxes.
What is Genshin Impact? The free-to-play co-op RPG was released on September 28 for PC, PS4, and Android and iOS devices. At a later date, Genshin Impact will also be released for the Switch. In addition, the developers have expressed plans for next-gen consoles.
In this game, you travel through a colorful fantasy world in anime style. From Adventure Rank 16, you can team up with up to 3 other players. This allows you to do RPG-typical things like complete quests, conquer dungeons, or take down bosses.
You can acquire new characters either for free or through the gacha system. Through the loot boxes, you can obtain characters and weapons with a value of 4 or 5 stars, but the probability is extremely low.

The co-op RPG is free to play and naturally needs to finance itself somehow. A loot box system is certainly an option for this, although it is controversial in the gaming community.
How likely are the characters? To get new heroes and weapons, you need to purchase the premium currency Primogems. You can also earn them by completing certain quests or through a monthly subscription. With Primogems, you can then buy boxes, the contents of which you obviously do not know.
However, the chances of getting the rare characters and weapons are vanishingly low. These numbers are officially confirmed by Genshin Impact:
- The probability of a character or weapon with 5 stars is 0.6%
- For 4 stars, it is at least 5.1%
And then you have a 0.6% chance of getting a random 5-star character or weapon. So if you want a specific character, it could take a very long time or become very expensive.
Is there a way out? However, Genshin Impact has something called the pity system or a pity pull. This means that with every 10th pull, you are guaranteed a 4-star character or weapon. For the more valuable 5-star items, it is every 90th pull. So you should have enough gems to reach your guaranteed item.
Otherwise, there is unfortunately no way out. However, beta players reported that it is not necessary to obtain new characters and weapons through loot boxes. The items you receive while playing are more than sufficient. However, over time, this may become boring for some.
The community takes it with humor
In the community, Genshin Impact is well received. However, the issue with the gachas in the Genshin Impact subreddit is a big topic. Here, people discuss and joke about the pain and despair that come with such a loot box. The community is divided but takes it with dark humor.
Besides all the memes on Reddit, the topic is unfortunately a nuisance for some players. Many free-to-play games have this problem: The question arises whether Genshin Impact employs a pay-to-win system or not. The real influence of characters and weapons will likely only become apparent over time.
