Genshin Impact has introduced new characters: Hydro character Yelan and Electro ninja Kuki Shinobu. What is already known about them and what roles they could play in the game, you can find out here.
Shortly before the release of Patch 2.6, Genshin Impact introduced 2 new characters
- Yelan, Orchid in the deep valley
- Kuki Shinobu, Soother of Suffering
Officially, not much is currently known about the playstyle of the two characters. However, we already know quite a bit about their role in the story in Genshin Impact, and there are some clues about their possible playstyles.
We will tell you everything that is known about the two ladies and reveal what the community is speculating.
Genshin Impact: Yelan and Kuki Shinobu – What we already know
What is known about the new characters? Officially, little has been said about Yelan and Kuki. However, a few more things can be inferred from the images:
- Yelan will be a Hydro character.
- She comes from Liyue and “claims to work for the Council for General Affairs.” This wording suggests that this is not the full truth.
- Players suspect that she will be a 5-star character. Unconfirmed leaks also suggest this.
- Kuki Shinobu is an Electro character.
- In the official image, she holds a blade in her right hand. This could mean that she is a swordswoman or has a skill that uses some sort of dagger.
- She comes from Inazuma and is the deputy of Itto in the Arataki gang.
- Players suspect that she will be a 4-star character. However, this is not confirmed.

Although Kuki Shinobu joined the Arataki gang only later, she is a powerful figure who has changed the whole gang. After her arrival, the gang’s business scope expanded to all areas of life, including, among other things, legal advice, business negotiations, catering at banquets, custom clothing…
Even more surprising is that the lax Arataki gang is able to present all relevant practice certificates, all signed with the same name: Kuki Shinobu.
It is said that this deputy has studied abroad, and it is also said that she has close ties to the Tenryou administration.
When outsiders hear this, they inevitably become suspicious. However, the residents of Hanamizaka, who often deal with the Arataki gang, are different, and they always turn to her without reservation for advice on various matters.
In their opinion, conversations with Kuki Shinobu always proceed smoothly and efficiently.
Just always pay attention to the following two rules:
First: Do not try to find out what she looks like under her mask.
And second: Do not ask why she has to avoid the Grand Narukami shrine every time she sets off on a mission.

The identity of Yelan has always been a mystery.
Like a phantom, she often appears in different forms at the center of events and disappears again before the storm is over.
The people who are in trouble are happy to meet her. For some reason, most of them believe that she will help them, and if not, they at least want to have her as an ally.
The problem, however, is that her opponents have the same idea.
Each of them has met a Yelan who bears a different name and identity, and each of them believes that they can form a partnership with her. But all are left in the dark.
Who does she want to help? When will she tell the truth?
Once she acts and intervenes, there will be no word of truth from her anymore.
When she reveals her true identity and speaks the truth, those who seek answers may not have a chance to hear them.
Genshin Impact: Yelan and Kuki Shinobu – These are the Speculations
What role might the characters play? Although there are no concrete hints for this, players have already speculated about the playstyle of the two characters.
The community speculates that Yelan could be a Hydro support. Specifically, many assume that the woman with the stylish haircut could be a kind of 5-star alternative for the strong character Xingqiu. A meme site, for instance, makes a comparison between Chongyun and Eula as well as between Xingqiu and Yelan:
With Kuki Shinobu, the community is not sure what role she will take. Given her ninja aesthetic, a DPS role would seem likely; however, the last ninja girl Sayu was a support with healing abilities.
Moreover, Genshin Impact still lacks an Electro healer, and Kuki’s title is “Soother of Suffering.” Therefore, some parts of the community speculate that Kuki could also be a healer (via reddit).
Furthermore, players have noticed that she has reptilian eyes (via reddit). This could be related to lore developments that were revealed during the popular event “Ritual of Three Worlds”. Certain individuals in the world of Genshin Impact are secretly reptilian humans, which can be specifically recognized by a special form of pupils.
When will the characters be released? Currently, it is also not known when the new characters will be available to play. However, it is expected that they will be obtainable through the Gacha system no earlier than in Patch 2.7. As the main characters for the next Patch 2.6 are already known.
