The publisher of Genshin Impact, miHoYo, completely prohibits the use of private servers. They are cracked versions of the game, which are illegal.
YouTuber Valkyrja strongly advises players against using private servers, as their real accounts can get banned, according to him (via Youtube). This can happen because when logging in, you still use the real launcher.
While users on reddit claim that nothing can happen because you don’t log in with your real login data on the private server, Valkyrja argues with the IP address. Anyone using the same IP for private and official servers can easily be caught.
