Genshin Impact started in the second half of Patch 2.4 with the annual Lantern Festival in the city of Liyue. The event already took place in January 2021 and was eagerly anticipated by players this year as well. Now there is initial feedback from the community, and it is quite positive.
What is the event about? The Lantern Festival in Genshin Impact is celebrated because the Chinese New Year usually begins from late January to mid-February. The festival lasts several days and concludes with delicious food, fireworks, and the lantern festival.
How do you participate in the Lantern Festival? You must reach or already have Adventure Rank 28 and complete the quest “A Rising Star.” After that, you will receive the quest “Return of the Crane with the Wind,” which you must also complete. Following that, the Lantern Festival will be unlocked.

There are 4 categories in which you must complete challenges to earn all rewards:
- “Colorful Flames”: Perfectly manufacture fireworks to achieve the highest score. You can even fire it afterwards and create a proper fireworks plan.
- “The Great Gathering”: You are on the high seas with your ship, completing passages within a certain time and defeating enemies.
- “Beautiful Shadows”: Solve increasingly tricky shadow plays by rotating the given material appropriately to form an image as a shadow.
- “Sea Defender”: Defeat the sea monster “Beisht” and complete separate tasks there.
“Colorful Flames” is tied to lore about various characters, especially Keqing. Those of you who enjoy funny dialogues and more background information about individual characters will definitely get their money’s worth.
What rewards are there?
- A 4-star character of your choice, including the new Geo character Yun Jin.
- Valuable Original Resin to draw on the game’s gacha banners.
- A Crown of Wisdom, one of the rarest items in the game.
- Some nice furniture for the housing system in Genshin Impact.
- Weapon minerals, talent books, Mora, and other smaller goodies.
The Lantern Festival in Genshin Impact is a “huge hit”
What is the community saying? Not only are the challenges praised in a reddit thread by GodConcepts, but also the ability to communicate with NPCs in the overworld and the aforementioned quests around Keqing in “Colorful Flames”.
He also emphasized how great he thinks the NPC feature is. He suggested that this should be consistently established in Genshin Impact in the future, allowing players to meet known characters in between to chat with them.
GodConcepts called for continued careful completion of the surveys to inform developers about what the community likes or dislikes. He stated: “The current Lantern Festival is a huge hit, and it shows how important player surveys and feedback are.”
Here are the responses to GodConcepts’ thread:
- NerdNurse223 loves creating the fireworks: “Is the firework launcher permanent? I love the item! Does anyone know?” Since no expiration of the item is indicated, it is presumed that the launcher and thus the fireworks will remain permanently in the game, but this is not certain.
- Rock3tPunch says: “I liked both [events], last year and this Lantern Festival. Last year, I liked that people could put wishes in their lanterns and learn their stories.”
- mangotcha was also a fan of the small quests about the characters: “I’d like to add that the quests for Xinyan, Ningguang, and Beidou were so much fun – the quests were one of my highlights of this event.”
Some share GodConcepts’ opinion and wish for known characters in appropriate areas and establishments to interact with them in between.
Even though there were voices expressing that the quests were too lengthy and the dialogues did not interest them, the overwhelming majority of the community was very positive. They hope that next year will be just as beautiful, if not better.
