Recently, there was a leak of the contents of Update 1.2 of Genshin Impact. Now the developer studio miHoYo is suing two players.
What was leaked? Some information from the beta of Update 1.2 of Genshin Impact has come to light. This includes details about the new heroes like Ganyu. However, the beta is subject to an NDA. Therefore, it is not allowed to discuss the contents.
How have the developers reacted? The developer studio miHoYo announced that they have identified two players who apparently shared information from the beta after investigations and tracking.
Legal action is now being initiated against these two players.
Leak leads to lawsuit
Why is there a lawsuit? Not only did the two leakers violate the NDA of Update 1.2, but even the contents of Update 1.1 went public before the release. miHoYo wants to preserve the surprise until the end – also because content can still change before the release of an update, and leaked information could lead to disappointments.
Since content from Update 1.1 has already been leaked, the developer studio is now implementing a zero-tolerance strategy. They want to prevent any further leaks, which is why strict measures are now being taken. This should serve as a lesson to others, who will think twice about publishing information in advance, despite the existence of an NDA.
What does miHoYo say about the situation? The developer studio understands that players want to learn about new developments in the game as soon as possible. However, these are contents that are still in development. It is simply uncertain whether everything will be released as it is.
Therefore, the team asks players not to share any information from betas. Players should also rely on official sources. On Facebook, they state:
In order to give travelers an unforgettable first impression of new versions, our art and music departments invest a lot of energy in producing exciting promotional content. The leak of beta content undermines our hard work and spoils the wonderful surprise for everyone who will see new characters for the first time.

Such actions harm us and all travelers in completely unacceptable ways. For each new version update, we will plan reveals and promotional content for the new characters that everyone wants to see. Please follow our official channels for content releases.
Do you think the lawsuit is justified or too harsh?
However, miHoYo is not the only developer currently fighting against leaks. There was also a leak with the action RPG Cyberpunk 2077. 20 minutes of gameplay from the PS4 version were released. The leaker is also facing a lawsuit now.
