In Genshin Impact, your characters have been dying more frequently in recent days. The culprit is a feature that was so unpopular that some thought it was a bug.
In recent days, there have been a lot of deaths in Genshin Impact. This was not only due to the new boss from Patch 1.1, but also due to a bug that was actually a feature. However, players perceived it so negatively that the developer miHoYo has now apologized and quickly implemented a change.
What was going on? If you played Genshin Impact right after Patch 1.1 last week, you might have, unfortunately, died several times without realizing what the cause was. Characters like Diluc, Klee, or Razor kept dying without any immediately apparent reason.
The cause was damage inflicted by “environmental effects”. Where previously a patch of burning grass dealt 10 damage per second, this damage increased to several hundred health points after the patch. Even strong characters fell victim to these effects after a few seconds, leaving many players confused.
Many players complained that even everyday tasks, such as mining ores or completing daily missions, became insurmountable obstacles.
Not a bug, but a feature: The changes in damage from environmental factors – such as fire effects on grass or electro damage in water – were indeed intended by the developers. After all, the damage also affects enemies. The damage was supposed to increase with the elevation of the world level, but it erroneously did not. This issue was fixed with Patch 1.1. This led to the damage from fire areas and electro-water being correct – yet the players had never experienced this problematic mechanic before.
The impact of this was shown by YouTuber ePower in one of his videos:
If you were on world level 5 and previously only knew fire damage of 10 points, you now burned with damage numbers of up to 250 per second. An intended mechanic that, however, caused frustration and dissatisfaction.
This is how miHoYo fixed it: A mini-patch has significantly reduced the damage from environmental effects. Although the damage is still noticeably higher than in game version 1.0, your pyro and electro characters will no longer die in just a few seconds. It is still advisable not to stay too long in electrified waters or fire areas.
Did you find the increased damage from fire and electro areas good? Did you perhaps have fun with the high values? Or did it just annoy you?
Also new in Patch 1.1 was the Reputation System – which offers you many advantages and bonuses.
