For Genshin Impact, the next major update is around the corner. It will be released just before Christmas and will bring a new map, new characters, and rewards. We at MeinMMO reveal what is included in Patch 1.2.
What are the highlights of Patch 1.2? The new update, titled “Chalk and Dragons”, primarily focuses on the area Dragonspine. This is the first major new map in Genshin Impact, where you can expect:
- Snowy zones, high mountains, and red crystals reminiscent of Dvalin’s corrupt tears
- New and unique creatures
- New story content that can be played right upon the patch’s release. Additionally, a second story update is planned for mid-January
- New rewards in the form of weapons and artifacts
- A brand new mechanic: Subzero Climate. This is a temperature system. Your characters lose HP if they stay too long in an area that is too cold, such as at the mountain top
During a livestream, the developers shared initial screenshots of the area. They also revealed further details about the update, including the two new characters you can obtain.
When does Patch 1.2 come out? The new update arrives on Wednesday, December 23. You can use the Christmas holidays and the time until New Year’s as the perfect opportunity to dive into the new adventures.
2 New Characters through Wishes
What are these characters? The first new character is Albedo, the Chalk Prince (on the title image). He is a 5-star character who uses a sword as his weapon and Geo as his element. He is a young but already famous alchemist from Mondstadt.
The second new character is named Ganyu and also comes from the 5-star category. However, she is a ranged fighter with a bow and the Cryo element. Ganyu is half human and half Adeptus. She hails from the region Liyue.
Both characters will be available through Wishes, the game’s gacha mechanic. It will also be interesting to see if Albedo can impress as a Geo character. Already, Zhongli, who was released in November, faced criticism for this element.
Numerous New Equipment Items
In the livestream, several new equipment items were shown that you can earn in-game or receive from Wishes.
Especially interesting are the new artifact sets, which also come with their own set bonuses. Both sets have an elemental DMG bonus even with just 2 pieces, making them interesting for characters of the respective elements.
With Patch 1.2, there will also be new weapons, the blueprints of which you can earn in the game. The sword “Festering Desire” can also be obtained through the related event of the patch.
New Mechanics and Events
What else does the update bring? With Patch 1.2, Genshin Impact also introduces a new mechanic that is interesting for multiplayer fans. Finally, a chat function will be added to interact with other players in co-op. Additionally, you can give your friends in the friend list custom names.
Furthermore, useful new mechanics are introduced, including automatic loot in the spheres as well as the ability to repeat the spheres without having to leave.
You will also see in the character menu starting from 1.2 which materials you need for the ascension of your characters.
What events will there be? Regarding events, three occurrences have been announced to come to the game:
- Hypostatic Symphonies is supposed to be an event for veterans where you can fight against enemies with special skills. You should be able to set the difficulties and challenges for the fights yourself.
- Lost Riches is new content for casual players where you can search for treasures throughout the game.
- With Marvelous Merchandise, the NPC Liben returns, where you can receive new rewards in exchange for ordinary items. This event is also supposed to work in multiplayer now.
In addition to these, the release event “The Chalk Prince and the Dragon” will also take place. Through this, you can earn the new sword, as mentioned above.
The following update, Patch 1.3, is expected to be released in February. There, we can again expect new characters.
There are already many new characters known through leaks that are supposed to come to Genshin Impact soon:
