In the RPG Genshin Impact, the focus is primarily on the different characters. They are the heart of the story and gameplay. A balanced team is essential to combine various elements and trigger devastating elemental reactions. However, one should not forget effective healers who can restore the team.
What makes Barbara so strong?
- Barbara may be somewhat overlooked in offense, but she is an extremely potent healer.
- Her healing scales with her maximum health points, which is why it’s worth loading Barbara up with HP items.
- During her elemental skill, she heals allies with her normal attacks (including characters of other players!).
- You can also use her ability and then switch characters – the active character will then have ongoing healing on them and applies the Hydro element to nearby enemies and themselves.
As an Ultimate, she has a powerful group healing ability that spontaneously heals all allies for a large amount.
Barbara is also excellent for destroying Pyro shields, like those used by many Abyss Mages or the boss Fluxfire Tree.
Even if you don’t actively want to use Barbara, it’s always worth having more characters to send on expeditions to gather additional resources.
How to get Barbara: You don’t unlock Barbara through a quest or a special event; it’s much simpler. You just need to reach Adventure Rank 20, after which you will receive a message via the in-game mail system. In the “attachment,” you’ll find the healer who will then join your team.

You can only unlock Barbara until November 10th. Because on November 11th, Patch 1.1 will be released, ending the ability to secure Barbara this way. However, it suffices if you have already created a character before Patch 1.1. You can still reach Adventure Rank 20 afterwards.

What comes as a replacement? There is no direct replacement for Barbara. With Patch 1.1, a new event will come that can give you the heroine Fischl, but she will only be available for free for a short time – currently expected to be for two weeks. She is indeed an excellent character who tops many tier lists, but she is not a healer.
Those who have not yet obtained Barbara should take the time in the coming days to reach Adventure Rank 20 somehow or at least create an account and log in once. You would regret not having the singing heroine later.
While you can still obtain Barbara through wishes, pulling for a desired character in the gacha system is quite unlikely or extremely expensive. It’s probably not going to be easier to get Barbara than through the current guaranteed unlock.
