The developer HoYoverse (formerly miHoYo) scored a big hit with Genshin Impact and is now working on a new game. This is set to be presented in more detail on May 13. But already there are first hints about what kind of game it could be.
What is known about the game? The name of the new game is Zenless Zone Zero. Not much is known about it, only that it is supposed to be a “AAA open-world action-adventure” that incorporates shooter elements into its gameplay. At least that’s what the well-known gaming analyst Daniel Ahmad says (via Twitter).
The game world is supposed to be “vibrant and paranormal.” Of course, Zenless Zone Zero will again feature anime graphics.
It is currently unclear whether it will be a pure single-player game or whether you can also explore the shooter with friends in co-op mode, as is the case with Genshin Impact.
When will we learn more about the game? HoYoverse has already created a dedicated website for the new game, where a countdown is currently running. This ends on Friday, May 13, around 8:00 AM (via Zenless). Then we will learn more details.
However, the website is available in English, indicating that the game will also be released globally.
HoYoverse achieved massive success with Genshin Impact
Why should you keep an eye on this game? HoYoverse developed an open-world game with Genshin Impact that achieved huge success in both Asia and the West. On average, players spend around 160 million dollars per month worldwide. The most successful month was October 2020 with a revenue of 233.7 million dollars (via Sensor Tower).
In total, more than 3 billion dollars have been generated since the release in September 2020. For comparison:
- Guild Wars 2 has generated approximately 700 million dollars since its release nearly 10 years ago – in 10 years and after 3 expansions (via NCSoft).
- Daybreak – the company managing a total of 8 games, including Lord of the Rings Online, Planetside 2, DC Universe Online, and EverQuest 1 & 2 – achieved a revenue of about 620 million dollars in the entire year of 2021 (via EnadGlobal7).
- Activision Blizzard King generates about 2 billion dollars in revenue in a quarter (3 months) (via Activision).
The game managed to keep players engaged through regular updates and simultaneously earn a lot of money via the gacha system. Regularly new characters are released in Genshin Impact, which you can obtain with luck from a banner package.
However, players would not have stayed engaged if the content and the world had not been designed so well. The attention to detail, the pretty graphics, and the stories have captivated many players.
