Genshin Impact can be played on PC, PS4, PS5, iOS, and Android. But what about crossplay and cross-save? We at MeinMMO will tell you.
What does Genshin Impact offer? The RPG offers you crossplay. If you’re playing Genshin Impact on PlayStation 4, your group can consist of players who are online at the same time on PC or smartphone. This applies to all platforms, although on PS5, you can only access the game through backward compatibility.
Cross-save, on the other hand, is only available to a limited extent:
- Your account is tied to an email, so you can use the same account on PC and smartphone.
- Only the PS4/PS5 is separate from this. Here, you log in via your PSN account. However, there is cross-save between the two consoles.
Additionally, there are fundamental requirements and restrictions when it comes to forming a group.
Requirements and Restrictions in Co-op
Requirements for co-op: While there is generally the possibility to play together in co-op and through crossplay, there are two restrictions:
- Firstly, all players must be on the same server. Therefore, you can only play with other European players if you’re from Europe. On PC and smartphone, you can theoretically switch your server, but you must start from scratch again. On PlayStation, your server is assigned to you via PSN.
- Secondly, all players must have reached adventure rank 16. This is a mandatory requirement for the multiplayer in Genshin Impact.
If you want to play with other players, you only need their ID. You can add this to your friends list and simply invite them to a group from there.
These restrictions exist in co-op: The multiplayer in Genshin Impact differs when playing from the classic version:
- If you are playing Genshin Impact in a two-person group, each of you can take on two characters.
- In a three-person group, the group leader can still control two characters, while the other two players can only control one each.
- And in a four-person party, each member of the group plays exactly one character.
Furthermore, in special contents like dungeons, there can only be one character of each type in the group.
Moreover, players who are not the group leader have restrictions on their actions. For example, they cannot open chests or complete story missions.
Preventing co-op with other platforms: In the settings of Genshin, under the subsection “Other,” there is an option “Allow only players from [Platform X] for multiplayer mode.” This option is set to “No” by default but can theoretically be activated.
