Some quests in Genshin Impact prevent players from progressing in the main story. Their characters are too “busy” and cannot participate in the events until the quests are completed.
These are the quests: Genshin Impact offers its fans numerous side quests that they can complete in addition to the main story quest. This also includes character quests.
They provide a deeper insight into the background stories of playable characters, and in most of them, you can play the respective characters even if you do not yet own them. To unlock them, you need special keys starting from Adventure Rank 32, which can be earned through daily quests.
You can own a maximum of 8 keys. This leads some players to unlock the character quests so that their additional keys do not expire. However, they do not complete them immediately, and this turned out to be a problem with the latest update.
“Nilou is busy”
This is the problem: The characters in Genshin Impact follow the game’s internal logic that they cannot be in multiple places at the same time. This means that if a character is already involved in a quest, it must be completed before they can jump into the next quest.
So if you have accepted Nilou’s story quest and have not completed it yet, then you will not get far in the new main quests. These quests require the presence of certain characters for their progress, but if they are already stuck in a character quest, an error message appears, and they are shown as “busy”.
Diverse players were caught off guard on Reddit and social media when they wanted to dive into the new main quests after the last update on November 2. The characters that have been reported as too busy so far include:
- Collei
- Nilou
- Tighnari
- Cyno
If you wanted to leisurely play through the new story section over the weekend, be sure to check your quest list to see if there are any surprises waiting for you.
How do I avoid this? The simplest solution to the problem is, of course, to not accept character quests before the main story is completed. However, if you have already accepted such a quest, you have no choice but to finish it first. After that, you can continue playing the main story.
However, there seems to be another option for patient fans who have enough keys. Some posts on Twitter report that certain dialogues in the main story change if you complete the character quests beforehand.
It might be worth finishing all corresponding side quests beforehand to get the most out of the main story. However, this information has not yet been confirmed.
Have you also been caught or do you always complete your side quests immediately? Let us know in the comments.
