The resin system of Genshin Impact has been under criticism for weeks. But is there anything more coming? The developers spoke about improvements.
Although Genshin Impact became a worldwide success “out of nowhere”, there are many limitations in the game. The most annoying of these is probably the resin system, which puts a stop to players after about 30 minutes of gameplay per day. Long sessions in the RPG with co-op options are then out of the question.
What is the resin system? In Genshin Impact, players have a special resource called “Original Resin”. This resource is required for almost all endgame activities in Genshin Impact. Whether you tackle major bosses like the Wolf or Storm Terror or just sift through some spheres for materials – everything in the endgame costs resin.
Resin can only be generated over time, receiving one every 8 minutes. Activities cost between 20 and 60 resin, so you may have to wait many hours to feel some progress. This is reminiscent of many energy systems common in mobile games.

If you want more original resin, you have to spend the premium currency Original Resin (Primogems) and eventually resort to real money. A system that not everyone likes.
What will be changed? Even though there was nothing more to hear in the presentation of Patch 1.1, miHoYo wants to raise the maximum limit of original resin. This was at least revealed in a “Developer Discussion” on October 22. The maximum of 120 resin will then increase to 160. This should at least ensure a bit more continuous playtime. However, it does not change anything for players who spend their resin on time.
Additionally, the weekly task in the Battle Pass will change. Previously, you had to spend 1,600 resin per week, which was nearly impossible for free-to-play players. The value is reduced to 1,200, making it significantly easier to achieve.
Is there more to come? In response to a query from PCGamer, the developers explained that they are “aware of the feedback regarding the resin system and that the team is already working on some solutions”. However, more information on how the system will be improved will only be available when an implementation of these solutions is foreseeable.
As of now, it seems that this will not be the case with Patch 1.1.
No resin anymore? Then you can at least farm some of the tougher opponents – you should do this daily:
Players want more to do: The underlying problem with the resin system is that players who have already completed the story have little to do. They log in once for the 4 daily missions, then take on 3 bosses or 6 spheres, which takes about 15 to 30 minutes. After that, there is little to do once the world has been farmed empty.
It is to be hoped that even more content will come that can also be played in co-op mode without the need for resin. Then Genshin could keep free-to-play players engaged for longer than just a few minutes a day.
We at MeinMMO had the developers in an interview and grilled them with some questions about the future of the game.
