According to leaks, Patch 2.4 will introduce a new area to Genshin Impact, which you can already see on the map. The update will also bring 2 new characters, skins, and banner reruns. MeinMMO summarizes what we know so far about the upcoming update.
If Genshin Impact sticks to its schedule of releasing new patches every six weeks, Patch 2.4 will be released on January 5, 2022. There are already some leaks and speculations concerning the upcoming update that you should take with caution.
Leaks can always deviate from the actual content and turn out to be false.
What new area is this about? The leakers are not 100% sure, but it seems that there will definitely be a new area in Genshin Impact. The previously reliable leakers UBatcha and Not Tangzhu (via Twitter) suspect that it will be the Great Chasm (via Twitter).
What we know about the Great Chasm: Since Patch 1.4, there have been rumors that the Chasm will be patched into the game soon, but that has never been the case. However, this rumor might prove to be true this time, as the Chasm forms the bridge between Sumeru and Liyue.
According to the story in Inazuma and the words of Yae Miko, our next travel destination will most likely be Sumeru – so the timing would be appropriate for this area.
What the Great Chasm might bring: Moreover, unconfirmed leaks have repeatedly claimed that the Dendro element is related to the Great Chasm and that the element is not yet ready for release. Therefore, it is assumed that the release of the Chasm has also been pushed back further.
Leaker BLANK stated that one of his insiders told him that the Dendro element is complete and ready for testing. However, this does not mean that the element will arrive soon, he added (via reddit).
Shenhe is coming – Aggressive Cryo Spear User
Who is Shenhe? Shenhe seems to be an aggressive and intimidating person. Ganyu and Xingqiu report about her temperament and that one should be careful in her presence (via Genshin Impact Wiki).
Hu Tao says about Shenhe that she is a unique person and looks completely different from anyone else.
Some characters have a point “about Shenhe …” in “Data / Voice”:
- Chongyun
- Ganyu
- Hu Tao
- Ningguang
- Xiao
- Xingqiu
Chongyun’s, Ningguang’s, and Xiao’s words are currently not retrievable, as their statements are hidden behind an unknown quest.
Why Shenhe should appear in Patch 2.4: Leaker Uncle dumb said that Shenhe’s skills are ready (via reddit). He also says that her abilities would be like Xiao’s elemental ability and Kazuha’s special ability, just in cryo form (via reddit). She is supposed to carry a spear as a weapon and is probably a 4-star character.
Since these details about Shenhe are known and one knows more about her than about the long-revealed character Yae Miko, some assume strongly that Shenhe will appear in Patch 2.4 or at the latest 2.5 in Genshin Impact.
Yunjin is coming – Anemo User
Who is Yunjin? Yunjin is a dancer, singer, and brewer at the Heyu Tea House in Liyue. Moreover, according to Xingqiu, she is said to be able to write fantastic stories when she has a drink.
Some characters also talk about her in “Data / Voice” under the point “about Yunjin …” and in their character quests (via Genshin Impact Wiki):
- Hu Tao
- Keqing
- Xingqiu, also in his story
- Xinyan, also in her story
- Zhongli, only under “Good Evening”
Leaks about Yunjin have been circulating online for ages (via Twitter). They show Yunjin as a Geo character, but in a more recent cutscene from an event, it was clearly seen that Genshin Impact has changed her element. Many now assume that she will become an Anemo character:

Future banners, reruns, and 2 new skins
What could the banners look like in Patch 2.4? The reddit user astrrea posted a detailed banner analysis in the forum, suspecting that the following banners could come (via reddit):
- Xiao rerun together with the new character Yunjin, as Thoma, Gorou, and Sara were released together with 5-star characters of the same element. Moreover, the Lantern Rite is scheduled for the period of Patch 2.4, during which Xiao was released in 2021.
- Ganyu rerun together with the new character Shenhe. According to his analysis, it is time for a Ganyu rerun, as it will have been a year since she was last featured in a banner. If she does not come in Patch 2.4, she will be the first character to need more than 1 year for her rerun.
What 2 new skins are supposed to come? UBatcha already leaked before update 2.2 that there will be 2 new skins (via Twitter). Keqing and Ningguang are said to be the lucky characters who will receive these. Furthermore, UBatcha states that you will get the Ningguang skin for free and you will have to pay for the Keqing skin.
Even with the release of the two skins, the Lantern Rite would be a fitting occasion.
