In Genshin Impact, the update 3.4 starts in January. This brings you numerous news such as the characters Alhaitham and Xiao. We at MeinMMO summarize the most important things for you.
What are the highlights of 3.4? The patch brings some innovations that were presented in a livestream, including:
- New characters Alhaitham and Yaoyao
- A new region in Sumeru, called “Desert of Hadramaveth”
- New outfits for Lisa and Ayaka
- The Lantern Rite event returns
Within the story, players also hope for a meeting of the characters Venti and Zhongli during the Lantern Rite. Venti, as a bard, cannot miss the event and hopes for a chance to appear as an opening act. Liyue is under the deity Rex Lapis, who lives in the city under the alias Zhongli.
Accordingly, some players are now excited about how the confrontation of the two deities will turn out, as this would be the first time they can witness an interaction between the two Archons.
When will the update be released? On January 18, 2023, the new version of Genshin Impact will be launched. You can already download the update, even while you are playing.
Old characters return, but the banner also holds 2 new ones
Which banners will there be in version 3.4? In the first phase, there will be event banners with Alhaitham and Xiao as 5-star characters. In the 2nd phase, there are reruns of Hu Tao and Yelan. Yaoyao will be present on the event banners in both phases.
This is Alhaitham: Alhaitham is a 5-star character of the Dendro element. In combat, he uses a one-handed sword. The character comes from Sumeru and works for the local academy, where Alhaitham documents insights and develops new regulations.
The character’s abilities revolve around the “mirrors” that float around him in combat. His E-attack summons up to 2 mirrors (maximum of 3), which attack enemies on the field. The strength of the attack depends on the number of mirrors collected.
With his ult ability, Alhaitham generates a force field, and all enemies within it take multiple Dendro damage. If mirrors are active on the battlefield at that time, they are consumed to further increase the damage of the attack.

This is Yaoyao: Yaoyao is a 4-star character from Liyue. She fights with a polearm and also uses the Dendro element. Yaoyao is the younger sister of Xianling and serves the character Ganyu as an assistant.
Yaoyao is the first Dendro healer in the game, but can also be used as a sub-DPS. She can summon the rabbit Yuegui, which throws radishes at enemies, thus applying the Dendro element to them.
If Yaoyao’s HP is below 70%, she will be healed by the radishes thrown at her. If the radishes do not hit anyone, they will remain on the field for up to 5 seconds and can be collected.
With her ult ability, Yaoyao increases her Dendro resistance and movement speed by 15%. She also summons up to 3 rabbits that behave similarly to the individual Yuegui. You can find gameplay and introduction video to Yaoyao here:
New area in Sumeru
With update 3.4, a new region in Genshin Impact is coming. It belongs to Sumeru and is called “Desert of Hadramaveth”.
It resembles the previous desert region, with one difference: there is a massive sandstorm that never seems to end. It periodically returns and is supposed to severely restrict players’ visibility. The closer you are to its center, the stronger the effect you will notice.
In the desert, you can also encounter Setekh Wenut, a new world boss. It is a predator that lurks beneath the sand waiting for you. It is blind and detects you using vibrations and sounds.
Near the boss, there are supposed to be sharp rocks that you cannot destroy yourself. Use Setekh Wenut’s attacks to shatter them and receive rewards.
Quests and events of update 3.4
What new quests are there? The quest series “The Golden Dreamland” will be continued. To start it, you must go to the village of Aaru and speak to the NPC Bonifaz.
There is also a story quest related to the character Alhaitham.
What about new events?
- The Lantern Rite festival takes place for the third time in Genshin Impact with the update.
- Fortuitous Invitation is a sub-event of it, where players have the chance to win a free 4-star character
- Another Beetle Wrestling event will come, hosted by the character Itto.
- Warrior’s Spirit, a combat event in Inazuma.
- Second Blooming is an event where you can obtain the skin for Lisa. The one for Ayaka is only available in the shop, initially at a discount.
