Genshin Impact: All about Patch 2.2 – Leaks, Release, Banners, Characters

Genshin Impact Patch 2.2 will be released on October 13, this was announced in the official livestream for the new update. Many leaks have also been confirmed and new information has come to light. MeinMMO tells you what to expect in the new patch.

Update from October 3: There was an official livestream of Genshin Impact, in which new information for Patch 2.2 was provided, confirming some leaks:

• Information about the character Thoma
• Upcoming character and weapon banners in Patch 2.2
• “Tsurumi” is added as a new island in Inazuma and features new monsters
• The Rifthound’s vessel will receive a new Inazuma-style environment and many new furniture crafting recipes
• At least five events await you
• Two new hangout events
• Your artifact inventory will have space for 1500 artifacts

Official information about the character Thoma

Thoma fights agilely with a spear, is a 4-star character of the Pyro element and possesses the following abilities:

• He has an elemental skill called “Blazing Blessing”:
  • Thoma performs a kick that deals Pyro area damage
  • He receives the “Blazing Barrier” that has the following properties:
    • Thoma receives the Pyro attribute, comparable to Barbara’s skill, which gives her the “wet” state
    • If you use the skill again while the barrier is still active, the remaining potential damage absorption of the old barrier is added to the new one and the duration is renewed
    • However, there is a limit to damage absorption
• His special ability is called “Crimson Ooyoroi”:
• Thoma slashes through enemies and deals Pyro area damage
  • After triggering the ability, “Scorching Ooyoroi” activates:
    • All team members receive this buff, even if Thoma is swapped out
    • A type of Pyro shockwave is generated that deals Pyro area damage when characters perform their normal attacks
    • One shockwave can be generated per second
• His passive talent “Flaming Assault” increases the damage of Pyro shockwaves based on Thoma’s maximum health points
• “Imbricated Armor” is another passive talent that activates when a “Blazing Barrier” is triggered or stacked, increasing the shield strength of the active character. Additionally, normal attacks from other characters will strengthen the shield
• Thoma’s third passive talent is “Free Fisher”. When you catch a fish in Inazuma, you have a 20% chance of getting a second fish

Upcoming character and weapon banners

Which characters are coming in Patch 2.2? The leaks have partially predicted correctly: Tartaglia and Hu Tao are returning in banners. Additionally, the new character Thoma will be in Hu Tao’s banner. So you can first expect Tartaglia’s banner, followed by Hu Tao’s.

Which weapons are coming in Patch 2.2? The new bow “Polar Star” will be available in the weapon banner. Additionally, there will be three new 4-star weapons:

• The spear: “Wavebreaker’s Fin”
• The claymore “Akuoumaru”
• The bow: “Mouun’s Moon”

“Tsurumi” as a new island in Inazuma

This is Tsurumi: The island of Tsurumi is shrouded in dense fog, making visibility difficult and has always been a mystery.

It is easy for inexperienced adventurers to get lost in this fog. That is why not many have dared to venture to the island of Tsurumi.

What monsters inhabit the island of Tsurumi? The new monsters resemble wolves. They are mystical creatures from the abyss, which can be categorized into four types based on their elements.

The Geo element is called “Rockfond Rifthound Whelp”. The larger version is named “Rockfond Rifthound”. The Electro element also exists in small and large variants. The small one is referred to as “Thundercraven Rifthound Whelp” and the large one “Thundercraven Rifthound”.

They attack you with their claws and deal elemental damage while doing so. During the fight, they can also become invisible for a short time to ambush you.

If you like the corrosion effect from the winding abyss? Then you will love the new enemies! When their attacks hit you, you will be inflicted with this. Your active character and other team members lose health points every second. A shield does not protect you from this effect.

Vessel of the Rifthound in Inazuma Style

What does this mean? Currently, there are three different themes in the housing system – the Vessel of the Rifthound:

• Beach
• Mountains
• Flying Islands

With Patch 2.2, a fourth theme reminiscent of Inazuma will be added. You will see typical cherry blossom trees, mountains, and grass in matching colors.

There are also many new furniture and crafting recipes available in the Vessel’s shop.

How do you unlock the new theme? You need to get the large tree, the “sacred Sakura” to level 40.

New features: You can now place floating islands in your Vessel of the Rifthound. You can determine the height and orientation yourself. This allows for more creativity and building options in the housing system.

Furthermore, there are new chests on Tsurumi that contain crafting recipes for the Vessel. These chests have not been available in Genshin Impact before.

These 5 events await you

Labyrinth Warriors

What type of event is this? In Labyrinth Warriors, you enter the dungeon “Mystic Onmyou Chamber”. There you will encounter a variety of monsters and other traps in a total of five levels. To start a run, you need to set up two teams.

The first team is a “combat” team and the second a “support” team. “Shiki Taishou’s Charm Magic” is supposed to help you complete the dungeon. This magic allows you to choose so-called “Shikifuda” before entering, which provides you with various buffs and other supports.

Additionally, monsters in this dungeon drop random items:

• “Damaged Replica”: Provides you with magical buffs for the next challenge
• “Battered Shikifuda”: Triggers random enhancements or debuffs before the next challenge
• “Aged Token”: The tokens can be exchanged for event rewards

Shadow of the Ancients

What type of event is this? While you are on an investigation, you encounter a “Ruin-Grader” with regeneration abilities. You have to get to the bottom of these abilities during the event.

The event is divided into three sections:

• 1. “Investigative Surveys”: You receive an item that you can place on the ground up to three times to locate components that repair an important ancient device called “Pursina’s Spikes”. These devices are supposed to help you stop the monster’s regeneration abilities
• 2. “Data Sampling”: In this part of the event, you test if the “Pursina’s Spikes” actually work
• 3. “Live Testing”: In the final section, you fight with the “Pursina’s Spikes” against the Ruin-Grader

Tunes to the World’s Sounds

What type of event is this? You receive an instrument from Kazuha that allows you to make music. The surface resembles well-known music games like Osu!. Additionally, you play your song not alone but together with another character. You can make music with these seven characters:

• Ningguang
• Zhongli
• Keqing
• Xiao
• Kokomi
• Ayaka
• Raiden Shogun

You will encounter three different difficulty levels that you need to overcome.

Dreams of Bloom

What type of event is this? A florist named Sakuya has different daily requests for you, which you have to fulfill. You deliver materials to her. As a thank you, you receive special flower seeds that you can plant in your Vessel of the Rifthound.

The flowers are called “Dreamblooms” when fully grown and there are three different types, each available in three different colors:

• Dreambloom: Star Hibiscus Seed in pink, apricot, and purple
• Dreambloom: Pearbell Seed in yellow, purple, and light blue
• Dreambloom Silkpod Seed in white, pink, and yellow

You can even send these flowers to your friends if, for example, they are missing a specific variety. Additionally, you can use the grown flowers as decoration in your Vessel of the Rifthound.

If you complete certain requests, you will additionally receive one of three furniture pieces on which you can stylishly place the flowers. You can choose the piece of furniture yourself.

Ley Line Overflow

What type of event is this? This event has appeared multiple times in Genshin Impact and allows you to farm the various “Bounties of Elements” more effectively. You will receive double loot from them three times a day.

Two new Hangout Events

MWho are you going out with in the future? The new hangout events let you hang out with Sayu and Thoma. In such events, you always learn more background information about the characters and can reach different endings depending on your responses.

Leaks about the character Thoma

What has been leaked? In short: everything! A multitude of information has already been confirmed by the official livestream of October 3, but not everything. Here are his skills:

• His main stat when leveling up is Attack %. He gains 24% attack at the final ascension (via Twitter)
• Base Attack:
  • Attacks up to four times with his spear
• Heavy Strike:
  • Stabs forward with the spear and deals damage to enemies in the path
• Elemental ability “Blazing Blessing”:
  • Receives a shield with the following abilities, which have not yet been officially confirmed:
    • It absorbs damage based on Thoma’s maximum health points (HP). 19.6% of maximum HP + 1887 HP
    • Pyro damage is absorbed 250% more effectively
    • The maximum damage absorption has a maximum value that cannot be exceeded by Thoma’s health points
    • Duration: 8 seconds
• His special ability is called “Crimson Ooyoroi”:
  • “Blazing Barrier” is activated. The same rules apply to it as those of the elemental ability, except that it can absorb less damage
  • Duration: 15 seconds

Thoma’s constellations:

• 1. Constellation “A Friend’s Duty”: If “Blazing Barrier” absorbs damage from all team members except Thoma, the cooldown of Thoma’s elemental and special ability is reduced by 3 seconds. The effect can be triggered once every 20 seconds
• 2. Constellation “Shrewd Staff”: The duration of Thoma’s special ability is increased by 3 seconds. Enemies hit by the shockwave lose 15% resistance against the Pyro attribute for 6 seconds
• 3. Constellation “Fortified Resolve”: The talent level of “Blazing Blessing” is increased by 3 levels
• 4. Constellation “Long-Term Planning”: If Thoma uses his special ability, he receives 15 elemental energy points
• 5. Constellation “Raging Wildfire”: The talent level of “Crimson Ooyoroi” is increased by 3 levels
• 6. Constellation “Burning Heart”: Once a “Blazing Barrier” is triggered or stacked, it increases the damage of normal attacks, heavy strikes, and drops attacks by 15% for 6 seconds

Thoma’s passive talents:

• “Imbricated Armor”:
  • Once a “Blazing Barrier” is triggered or stacked, the shield strength of the active character is increased by 5% for 6 seconds.
  • This effect can be triggered once every 0.3 seconds
  • A maximum of five stacks can be achieved this way
• “Flaming Assault”:
  • The damage dealt by the Pyro shockwaves of Thoma’s special ability is increased by 2.2% based on Thoma’s maximum health points

Leaks: Winding Abyss in Patch 2.2

What happens in the winding abyss? For the new abyss, the monthly blessings have been leaked. Every update has a new monthly blessing in the winding abyss every two weeks. In Update 2.2, they are as follows:

• 1. Monthly blessing: If a character has 50% or more health points, they receive a combat bonus of 6.5% per second. Ten stackings are possible this way. If health points fall below 30%, all stacks are removed (via Twitter)
• 2. Monthly blessing: If a character has full health points, they receive a stacking of “Blessed Effusion” per second. Ten stackings are possible this way. If you use a special ability, you receive a damage bonus of 5% per stacking for 10 seconds. During these 10 seconds, you cannot collect additional stackings of “Blessed Effusion” (via Twitter)
• 3. Monthly blessing: Characters with 50% or more health points emit shockwaves that deal damage to nearby opponents. If the health points are full, the shockwaves deal about 66.6% more damage (via Twitter)
