The first major patch of Genshin Impact is almost here. But before it arrives, you should do a big farming round – we will tell you what you need.
In Genshin Impact, the first major patch is just around the corner. Starting on November 11th, Update 1.1 will introduce many new contents to the co-op RPG. Some players want to take the last days to farm resources and be perfectly prepared for the new patch. We will tell you which items you should really farm in advance – and what you should avoid.
Crystal Cores
What are Crystal Cores used for? Crystal Cores are important for alchemy in Genshin Impact. Until now, they have mainly been used for some potions, but with Patch 1.1, there will be a new recipe that also requires them. The Condensed Resin can be used to gain more loot from spheres, thus saving time.
You can use 40 Original Resin along with a Crystal Core and some Mora to craft the Condensed Resin and store it in your inventory. You then use it in a sphere of your choice instead of the usual 20 Resin and receive double the amount of loot.
The resin costs per loot item remain the same, but the time spent gathering is halved. Furthermore, you can save excess resin and use it on days when you have more time to play.
Where do you find Crystal Cores? You find Crystal Cores by catching crystal butterflies. You need to approach the butterflies and interact with them quickly, as they will try to fly out of reach. Each captured crystal butterfly gives you one Crystal Core. Captured or successfully escaped butterflies will respawn after a while.
At these locations, you can discover particularly many crystal butterflies and quickly replenish your stock of cores:
The best place is a cave on Tianheng Mountain, slightly northwest of the teleport point Cloudsea, Liyue. In front of the cave entrance stand a few enemies. Inside, you can find up to 9 crystal butterflies!
Directly at the site of the lonely clouds (island in the southeast of Liyue), right in front of the entrance to the instance. There, 3 crystal butterflies are flying. If you collect them all, another 3 will come down after a few seconds.
Lastly, there are 5-6 crystal butterflies at Windrise. Make sure to set the time to night, as the butterflies prefer to show up then.
If you farm these 3 spots, you will get a decent amount of crystal cores every day – probably more than you could ever spend.
Mora
What is Mora used for? Mora is the most well-known currency in Teyvat, the world of Genshin Impact. You can use it to shop at most merchants to buy materials for cooking or to obtain new recipes. But Mora is also needed for almost all types of character progression:
- Upgrading artifacts
- Upgrading weapons
- Upgrading talents
- Granting experience points
- Crafting items in alchemy
- Crafting items at the blacksmith
Without enough Mora, you can’t do any of that and will find yourself significantly hindered in most aspects of the game. It can be extremely frustrating to have all materials for upgrades but be hindered in progression due to Mora.
How do you get Mora? Initially, you get Mora from many different sources. Whether from quests, chests, or by exchanging Anemo and Geo sigils with merchants – the game bombards you with Mora. Destroying artifacts (trash can symbol in the inventory) also gives you Mora but should be considered a last resort.
However, once these sources are exhausted, farming Mora can be tedious. The only option left is to visit the “Gedeih der Elemente – Bloom of Wealth” to earn Mora – but this costs 20 Original Resin each time. Once unlocked, the “Gedeih der Elemente” will be shown on the world map. They are the “yellow dust clouds” on the map.
If you don’t know what to spend your resin on, Mora is always a good option, as the currency will remain useful forever.
Experience Points
What are Experience Points used for? XP are an important part of character progression in Genshin Impact. They allow you to level up characters to higher levels, granting them better attributes and occasionally rewarding them with new talents upon ascension. Especially new characters need to be leveled up first to keep up with the other members of the group.
A very small portion of experience points comes from defeating enemies or completing quests. However, the much larger portion comes from leveling your character directly through the menu.
For that, you need one of three items:
- One Wanderer’s Thoughts (1,000 XP)
- One Adventurer’s Words (5,000 XP)
- One Hero’s Wisdom (20,000 XP)
How to find Experience Points: All three variants are commonly found in quests or in chests during gameplay. At the beginning, you will be flooded with XP items. However, once that supply is exhausted, there is only one sensible option left: farming “Gedeih der Elemente – Bloom of Revelation”.
You can find them by opening your map and looking for the “blue dust clouds”. Travel there, activate the small event, and defeat all enemies. However, note that collecting the reward costs 20 resin each time. If you have enough Mora and still want to prepare for Patch 1.1, collecting XP items is a good move.
Don’t farm too specifically, it only brings frustration
What shouldn’t you farm? Besides the things that are definitely useful, there are also a whole bunch of items that you should avoid spending time on, even if they sound tempting.
This generally applies to all upgrade materials that are specifically tailored to individual characters and require original resin. Such as Flux Fire Seeds from the Flux Fire Tree or Cleansing Hearts from the Oceanide.
Why shouldn’t you farm that? The more specific an item is, the higher the likelihood that you will not use it at all. For example, if you farmed Cleansing Hearts to upgrade the new character Childe, there’s a flaw in this logic – namely Childe. You first have to obtain this character through prayers, and it can cost several hundred euros.
It can be frustrating to have collected all upgrade materials for him without ever obtaining him from the prayers. This increases frustration and possibly the willingness to spend more money than planned.
Therefore, focus on items that you can farm practically without limits or that have a clear use for multiple characters and aspects of the game. XP and Mora are good options because they are useful for all characters. But loot from regular enemies, like the Geo Drakes, can also be worthwhile.
