MMORPG raised $20,000 from players, launched on Steam – Now it’s going offline forever

Genfanad – Generic Fantasy Adventure promised a nostalgic MMORPG gaming experience and was able to raise $20,000 via Kickstarter in 2022. However, after the subsequent early access phase on Steam, it ultimately won’t see a final launch. The servers will go offline on April 30, 2024.

What have the developers of Genfanad announced in detail? In a post on X, the developers of Rose Tinted Games explained that they have made the difficult decision to cease development on Genfanad.

The reason they cite is the lack of financial resources to continue working on the project. While the Kickstarter campaign raised almost double the target amount of $10,000 in 2022, it was only a fraction of the costs that had already been invested in the development of Genfanad.

Last year, they attempted to realign the MMORPG to help the early access version on Steam achieve more success, the developers continued. However, feedback from the community made the team realize that Genfanad could not be released with the quality standards that the studio had hoped for.

What happens now with Genfanad? Since the announcement of the shutdown, you can no longer obtain the game on Steam. Starting from April 30, 2024, all Patreon supporters will also lose access to the servers.

It’s unfortunate: Just in March 2024, there was a new demo for the Steam Deckbuilding Fest that included a revised tutorial, the first story chapter, crafting, dungeons, and PvP. Obviously, it also failed to attract enough interested players to the servers.
