Warframe is now available on the Nintendo Switch. And you can even transfer your progress from the PC version. You should think carefully about this!
Can I use my PC account on the Switch? You can indeed use your existing Warframe PC account on the Switch. This means you won’t have to start over from scratch and grind a lot. However, there are some serious limitations.
Account mirroring is a one-way street
Attention: Warframe still does not offer crossplay; you are merely mirroring your account from PC to Switch. This means you are transferring the current state of the account to the console.
From then on, the two accounts are completely separated. If you make progress on PC afterwards, it stays on the PC, and whatever you do on the Switch will also remain there. You cannot pull the PC account over again, nor can you bring progress from the Switch to the PC.
Why can’t it work differently? The reason for this cumbersome procedure lies in the different update cycles of the Warframe versions. The PC version gets everything first; the console versions are only ready weeks later. The PC version is often further along in the patch cycle.
So, to keep everything in sync, you would have to constantly remove the changes from updates when interacting the PC with the consoles, and that is far too much effort and, above all, a source of countless problems.
Be careful with the account transfer
To clarify what needs to be considered, the developers provide the following list of details:
- Transferred accounts are two separate accounts after the transfer
- The transfer can only happen once
- You can only transfer PC accounts to the Switch, not to other consoles
- Your existing Switch account will then be overwritten
- Real money currency will not be transferred; if you have bought platinum on the Switch, it will be credited in the new account
- Purchased items, platinum, and in-game currency will be overwritten, and the platinum will be credited back
- Clans and friend lists will not be copied
- Items that are not currently available on the Switch will appear as soon as this is the case
- Items that affect the game economy will not be transferred.
