The Chinese gaming giant Tencent has introduced a new MMORPG. It is called Tarisland and will be released for PC, Android, and iOS. It is clear what well-known model the game follows.
What kind of game is it? We don’t know much about Tarisland yet, as there is hardly any information available about the new game from gaming giant Tencent, except for a trailer. However, some of the initial scenes strongly resemble World of Warcraft.
This might not be a coincidence, as it is still uncertain whether WoW can continue in China. For now, the servers there are going offline since Blizzard has lost its partner NetEase in China. It fits perfectly that Tencent seems to want to fill this gap.
What are the core features? In the trailer for Tarisland, some gameplay elements are clearly visible, while others can be inferred. However, there has already been a two-day playable version of the MMORPG, from which some information has leaked.
- The game features an open world with mounts. You may even be able to ride dragons and fly with airships.
- The graphics are more in a comic style and move away from realism.
- There are various races, weapons, and magic.
- Massive bosses and large dungeons for multiple players await in Tarisland.
- The game will be released on PC, Android, and iOS, with the PC version being separate and optimized.
- The popular “Auto-Battle” feature in mobile MMORPGs that fights automatically for you will not be present.

Release in the west still unclear
Why is the game exciting? The first gameplay scenes look quite promising and are well-received by the community. The direct and obvious similarity to World of Warcraft is also likely to please many fans.
Moreover, just a few days after the initial announcement, a playtest followed, which could indicate that the MMORPG is further along in its development than other MMORPGs currently in development.
Furthermore, the gaming giant Tencent is behind the project, which also owns games like League of Legends, large stakes in Path of Exile, and parts of Fortnite. This could mean that the new MMORPG won’t be lacking in resources.
When will Tarisland be released? This is still up in the air. It is also not known whether the MMORPG will even be released in the west.
Since the game has only just been announced, it is relatively unlikely that the MMORPG will be released in 2023. Until then, you’ll have to keep riding your dragons in WoW before you can in Tarisland.

Players mock Tarisland for its similarity to World of Warcraft
How does the community react? Extremely mixed. It seems that almost no one really knows what to make of Tarisland. Some view the game as a “WoW clone from China”, while others see it as a great hope.
This could partly be because Tencent, as a publisher, often doesn’t enjoy much popularity. Some commenters have already expressed concerns that the game might lean too much into Pay2Win.
However, people do agree on one thing: the incredible similarity to World of Warcraft. While some jokingly say, “Here comes WoW 2.0”, others see it a bit more critically; however, everyone agrees on the similarity itself.
So you can find comments like these everywhere:

What do the fans say? At this point, we would like to quote some people from the community around the game. The quotes come from comments under the trailer of Tarisland on YouTube:
- Activ Games says: “From the moment I saw PC and Mobile, I knew it would never compare to WoW.”
- Siks Silver sees it positively: “I want to play it right now!”
- Windam says: “Awful animations and strange flying mounts. Also, Tencent means there’s a high chance of Pay2Win. A perfect combination for a WoW replacement in China.”
- Sayan simply writes: “WoW 2.0.”
People certainly have mixed feelings about Tarisland.
What do you think of Tarisland? Do you see in the upcoming MMORPG a great hope for WoW fans, or rather the opposite? Do you find the similarity of the two titles shamelessly stolen or rather a successful homage? Feel free to share your opinion here in the comments at MeinMMO.
