The American furniture manufacturer Herman Miller is known for its ergonomic chairs. The company is now focusing more on the gaming market and announces a new version of Aeron, one of the most well-known office chairs. Although the chair is not cheap, it is already being used by gamers.
What kind of chair is this? The Aeron was first introduced in 1994 and was primarily intended for offices. Today, the chair can be found in many places, as Tim Straker, the company’s Marketing Chief, disclosed in a press release:
Aeron is one of, if not the most versatile chair ever designed, and we’ve seen it used everywhere from professional athletes’ locker rooms to sports studios and recording studios – it even resides in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
Now, the Aeron is being launched in a special edition for gamers. It is available in several versions, with the cheapest priced at $1,445.
The Aeron is also not the first gaming chair from the company. In July, we reported on a collaboration between Herman Miller and Logitech that produced a “1,500 dollar” chair.
Ergonomics and decades of experience are supposed to make the difference
What makes the chair so expensive? While the new Aeron costs a lot of money, it is also supposed to offer a lot:
- Powerful ergonomics. The backrest is divided into 8 zones, each with different tension.
- Different specifications during manufacturing to perfectly adjust the chair to the size and body structure of the sitter.
- Fully adjustable armrests.
- The seat has a special ventilation system to dissipate body heat and water vapor.
The chair is delivered fully assembled and requires no assembly. Additionally, there is a 12-year warranty with 24-hour use. The chair will be available starting from September 14. It can already be pre-ordered on the official website.
How is the chair received in tests?
- The website Compare Before Buying praises the office version of the Aeron as a premium product with high ergonomics and top quality.
- The website Gaming Scan also gives the office version a 4.8 out of 5 in their rating. Although the price is high, they clearly recommend the chair and see it as an investment in a healthy future when spending a lot of time at the computer.
Are these chairs really popular among gamers? When thinking of gaming chairs, models from DX Racer or Noblechairs often come to mind. They are not cheap, with some costing up to 600 euros, but they are in a different price segment than the Aeron.
However, as Tim Straker explains, the chairs from Herman Miller are also popular among gamers:
When we started researching how we could help meet the needs of the gaming community, we found that many of our existing chairs were already favorites among some gamers and teams: We came across countless positive reviews from gamers about the Aeron.
In addition to the Aeron, more chairs in a special version for gamers are set to be released this fall.
Alongside Herman Miller, other well-known brands are also developing products specifically for gamers. For instance, Nike is currently working on a “gamer shoe”.
The famous brand Louis Vuitton has also reached out to the gaming community. In 2019, there was a large collaboration with Riot Games that produced t-shirts, handbags, skirts, and also the sneaker shown above. Much of this was quickly sold out, despite prices over 1,000 dollars.
