Today, on Thursday, August 27, the gamescom 2020 kicked off with the Opening Night Live. You can find all the information here in the live ticker.
What happens at the Opening Night? The Opening Night is the big opening event for the digital gamescom 2020. The official start is at 8:00 PM, but the pre-show began at 7:30 PM.

10:10 PM: We will say goodbye for now. Thank you for following along and enjoy the rest of the aftershow!
10:02 PM: And with Ratchet & Clank, the official opening night of the gamescom comes to an end. However, it continues with the aftershow, here with us in the stream. You can find that embedded further up!
10:00 PM: When asked when Ratchet & Clank will be released, the developers said: “Within the PS5 release window.” They won’t reveal what that window looks like or how large it is, but the attempt was worth it!
9:48 PM: Two months ago, some PS5 games were shown – including the exclusive “Ratchet & Clank – Rift Apart”, which is expected to fully utilize the new technology of the console. The game features jumping between worlds, which according to Sony would not be possible on the PS4. The extended gameplay demo from the Opening Night shows what this looks like:
9:45 PM: Another gamescom award has found a winner: “Cyberpunk 2077” has snagged the award for “Best Sony PlayStation Game”.
9:44 PM: A new trailer for Destiny 2 – Beyond Light was released, showcasing the new power of the Guardians, “Stasis”, in action. Check out the gameplay here:
9:40 PM: Let’s continue with the retro game “Turrican” – followed by Destiny 2!
9:36 PM: We jump out of the intense VR war world and continue with the battlemage anime game “Spellbreak” – complete with epic guitar solos. It will be released on September 3. You can find all the information here.
9:30 PM: We are seeing many scenes of war from a first-person perspective. No wonder: The new VR game “Medal of Honor – Above and Beyond” is being presented. It seems to be purely a single-player experience.
9:26 PM: From the colorful Fall Guys, we go in the opposite direction: The RPG Wasteland 3 shows some new footage. It will be released tomorrow, August 28.
9:24 PM: Now, Season 2 of the mega-hit Fall Guys is being presented. There are new levels that look like a lot of opportunities to fall off the stage and get eliminated early! At least that’s what I’ve managed to do so far in Fall Guys! You can find all the information about Season 2 of Fall Guys here.
9:22 PM: Again, it’s into space, but without Star Wars: In “Chorus,” you are to become a living weapon – in the form of a fast-paced space fighter!
9:20 PM: We see a dark horror game called “Little Hope”, followed by the racing game “Project Cars 3”. That’s a hard style switch.
9:18 PM: Age of Empires 3 returns in the definitive version with crossplay and new game modes! It will be released in October – here is the trailer:
9:17 PM: On the Switch, the game “Struggling” is being released, where your biggest enemy is probably physics. The comic-styled game can be played solo or cooperatively.
9:15 PM: It’s been a while since we’ve had any Star Wars here in the ticker, right? I think so too! Good thing there’s Lego Star Wars – The Skywalker Saga, which brings the whole series at once. Well, at least in block form. But those looking for a Star Wars game to play with the family might find this perfect. It’s coming in Spring 2021.
9:13 PM: After “Twelve Minutes,” here’s the next time-loop game: In the turn-based tactical shooter “Lemnis Gate,” you can mess with time to take out your enemies.
9:10 PM: Now, Mafia: Definitive Edition was shown – in the form of the new story trailer:
9:07 PM: If you like fighting robots, you might enjoy “Override 2 Super Mech League.” According to the trailer, that’s exactly what’s in store – and it’s set to be released in 2020.
9:05 PM: There are some scenes from the Warframe expansion “Heart of Deimos.” We’ve gathered all information about the open-world expansion here.
9:02 PM: There’s a brief insight into “Godfall” – but barely after the first combat scenes have played, it’s already over.
9:00 PM: “Twelve Minutes” is an interactive thriller centered around a time loop. This will be something for mystery fans!
8:59 PM: In the spirit of the Sith maxim “Rule of Two,” more Star Wars is coming – in a way. The Sims 4 is featuring the Star Wars pack “Journey to Batuu.”
8:57 PM: Are you excited about space battles? Then check out the new trailer for Star Wars: Squadrons! On October 2, you can hop into the X-Wing (or TIE Fighter for friends of the dark side).
8:52 PM: Awards are being given out! Here are some of the winners of the “gamescom Award 2020.” All nominees can be found here, by the way.
- Watch Dogs: Legion has secured “Best Action-Adventure Game”
- Star Wars: Squadrons is the “Best Action Game”
- Operation Tango is “Best Multiplayer”
- Curious Expedition takes “Best Indie Game”
8:50 PM: WWE2K Battlegrounds is coming and brings wrestling matches in an exaggerated comic style. It’s going to be quite something.
8:49 PM: Now it’s getting dark – in the literal sense. We are seeing the game “Little Nightmares II.” A dark platformer where you take control of two small dolls.
8:46 PM: Now we see a game that visually resembles Minecraft, but takes the approach that you have to construct the perfect way for a heist. It’s called “Teardown”
8:41 PM: Now trailers are firing up again! There are scenes from Hyper Scape, the Captain Tsubasa game coming out tomorrow, and “Necromunda: Underhive Wars,” which will be released on September 8.
8:39 PM: Now we continue with Outriders and the new class “Technomancer.” It was already introduced a few days ago.
8:37 PM: With “Crash” Bandicoot, the name is quite a program right now – because the stream is quite stuttering. Alone on Twitch, 150,000 viewers are currently watching.
8:27 PM: An animated short film titled “Afterlives – Bastion” is shown. And it all ends with the release date: Soon, on October 27, we will go into the Shadowlands! Here you can find all the info on the Shadowlands release.
8:25 PM: Let’s continue with WoW Shadowlands!
8:22 PM: What has always gone well together? Bridges and zombies that shouldn’t run over them – of course. That’s why “Bridge Constructor The Walking Dead” is coming this year.
8:19 PM: Are the 80s suddenly back in fashion? Doc Brown from “Back to the Future” crashes the Gamescom and presents “Surgeon Simulator 2.” It’s now available in the Epic Games Store.
8:16 PM: Now there’s an insight into the backgrounds of Dragon Age.
8:13 PM: A trailer after another is being fired up – and we move directly into hell. “Ancient Gods,” the expansion for “Doom Eternal,” is presented – and the colleague in the background looks quite grumpy! Release is on October 10, all information about the expansion can be found here!
8:07 PM: There is a world premiere: The first look at “Unknown Awakening” looks like an adventure where you take control of a little girl in a magical world. She fights for her survival against ghostly warriors.
8:04 PM: It is emphasized that the new Black Ops installment directly connects to the original campaign and is set in 1981. There’s a new story trailer to marvel at!

8:02 PM: Geoff Keighley opens the program and immediately sets the first item on the agenda: Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, which was revealed just yesterday!
8:00 PM: And that’s it for the pre-show! Let’s get started with the main program!
7:59 PM: Enough about cars, now come dinosaurs! Did you always want to carry a park full of dinosaurs in your pocket? No problem, “Jurassic Park Evolution Complete Edition” is coming on November 3 for the Nintendo Switch.
7:57 PM: Fordzilla is not enough, Dirt 5 delivers the next bunch of car content!
7:53 PM: We get a little insight into the evening to come. There will be trailers, there will be gameplay demos – and special guests.
7:50 PM: Curiously, “Team Fordzilla” presents a car that is “by gamers for gamers.” What does the ride look like – is it for you? And how do you get in?
7:47 PM: No time to catch a breath, here comes the next trailer – with the comment “Parents, better put your kids to bed, it’s going to get scary.” The game is called “Quantum Error” and is likely a horror shooter.
7:46 PM: “Scarlet Nexus” is the name of the game, and the trailer features combat scenes in anime style.
7:44 PM: The pre-show has now started – and it’s kicking off directly with a trailer! We see a new game from Bandai Namco.

What is already known?
What we already know about the Opening Night: The show is expected to last about two hours and will be broadcast live from Los Angeles. A total of 38 games from 18 different publishers will be showcased.
Part of it will also include updates and new content for existing titles, not just new games. 5 major titles are definitely on the agenda. They are:
- Call of Duty Black Ops – Cold War
- Fall Guys: Season 2
- DOOM Eternal – Story Expansion
- STAR WARS Squadrons
- World of Warcraft: Shadowlands
