What is gamescom? The gamescom (the correct spelling is lowercase) is the largest gaming fair in the world and takes place every year from mid to late August in Cologne. This year, gamescom will kick off with the Opening Night Live on August 20, before opening its doors to visitors from August 21 to 25. According to statista.com, over 320,000 people attended the fair last year.

Head of gamescom is optimistic
What does the head of gamescom say about this year? Tim Endres, director of gamescom, says: “Following the already strong growth last year, we are heading towards new records for gamescom this year, with even more exhibitors and a higher international participation.”
So, gamescom is set to be even bigger in 2024 and could even break records. To make this happen, there will be new innovations: “Fans, industry professionals, and our partners from all over the world can look forward to an even more diverse gamescom this year, which will include our new Social Stage, the Cards & Boards Area, and the Artists Area.”
This year, well-known exhibitors will also be present. Gameswirtschaft reports that “Ubisoft, Bandai Namco, Astragon, HoyoVerse, THQ Nordic, Square Enix, and Microsoft Xbox (including Bethesda and Blizzard)” will be there.
EA is also said to be represented for the first time in a while and will present its new football simulation installment FC 25 at gamescom 2024.
Who will open gamescom 2024? gamescom 2024 will again be opened by a politician this year. Vice Chancellor and Minister of Economy Robert Habeck (Greens) will open the fair, but other politicians like the Berlin Senator for Economic Affairs Franziska Giffey (SPD) and NRW Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) also want to be on site.
