The most anticipated game of 2025 for many players is the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6. Fans of the action game can hardly wait for the release, leading to an inconspicuous sweater suddenly being sold for a high price.
What kind of item is this? Gamers have discovered a sweater on eBay that apparently is being sold by an employee of Rockstar Games.
GTA fans are now bidding over €1,200 for the sweater that you can’t buy anywhere else. However, the bidding war will last for another 7 days. So the price could still increase (as of December 31, 2024 via eBay).
Boring sweater, but at least a connection to GTA 6
What makes the sweater so special? Actually nothing, it is quite a boring item.
The sweater is black and has a “Rockstar Games” logo that matches the colors of GTA 6. On eBay, the garment is described as “Employee Merchandise”.
Basically, this is an item intended to market Rockstar Games and thereby GTA 6 – just merchandise. The only difference is that you cannot currently buy the sweater or another one – except for that one item on eBay.
Why is so much being bid for the sweater? Of course, we do not know the exact motivations of the individual bidders, but it is certainly conceivable that they hope for some sort of collector’s value.
If in the future no similar sweater is offered for sale in the Rockstar Games merchandise shop, the potential owner could have a unique collector’s item. In this case, the sweater could indeed be worth a lot and can be seen as an investment.
Should you also bid on the sweater? Probably not. Rockstar Games has its own merchandise shop where they offer similar sweaters – as well as caps, socks, and t-shirts. So you likely only need to wait until GTA6 merchandise is officially sold (via rockstargames.com).
A similar black Rockstar sweater costs around €75 in the official shop, and is currently even reduced to €52.49. Although this sweater is not in the GTA6 design, it suggests that you will also need to pay around €75 (without discount) for a similar sweater in the style of the upcoming game – and not €1,200.
