People sometimes throw away amazing things. A gamer has now discovered a good gaming PC in the trash. Many are wondering why someone would throw something like this away.
A gamer has now found a decent gaming PC in the trash. He explains that he is a garbage truck driver and it is his job to sift through the garbage. In the process, he found this gaming PC.
Another user recently showed that one can build a gaming PC from parts found in the trash.
Entry-level gaming PC with a lot of potential for improvement
What exactly did he find? The system comes from a computer company called Allied, which sells ready-made gaming systems. Inside, it has:
- An Intel i3-10100F, which is an entry-level CPU from Intel without a graphics chip
- A GTX 1650 from Nvidia.
- HDD with 1 TB storage
- 8 GB of RAM
He explains on reddit that he plays more on the console than on the PC and has no idea what he actually found. When he tests the computer on a monitor, the PC starts and at least he gets into the BIOS.
How do people react? Reactions vary widely. Some wonder why someone would just throw away such a good computer:
- The hardware may not be high-end, but the device is still in good shape. Many think there is no reason to throw away such hardware.
- Other users ask: “Did someone want to annoy their children” and therefore threw away their kids’ gaming PC?
Other people explain that such finds are not unusual. Someone writes that he always sneaks to the e-waste bin of the local landfill and takes old hardware there. Because the stuff still works perfectly, and people sometimes throw away excellent things.
However, many are surprised at how much good or functioning hardware ends up in the trash.
A comment that received more than 8,000 upvotes on reddit states:
I really do not understand how some people can be so wasteful. Enjoy this little machine. Thank you for saving it and keeping it away from the landfill.
Old hardware can often still be used without any problems
What can you still do with old hardware? You don’t always have to throw away old hardware, because in some cases you can still use the stuff without any problems. For example, a user bought old hardware and created nice decor for the wall.
You can also set up old hardware as a data and media server or install a Linux distribution. Because, unlike Windows, Linux is often much lighter and can run perfectly well on older hardware. This way, even old laptops or PCs can still be used without any problems if you don’t want to play the latest AAA titles right away.
What is not worth it? Replacing old hardware with similarly old hardware is almost never worth it. Even if you were to replace an old processor with an old high-end processor, your system would still be technically limited. Some components, like DDR3 RAM, cannot simply be replaced by new ones because DDR4 RAM requires a different slot. There are a whole range of upgrades we would strongly advise against.
Others deal skillfully with their old hardware and simply give it away. But that can also go wrong. A player had to realize this recently. Because this PC is not only old, but the gift also comes with a few nasty problems:
