A gamer bought a new PC with an RTX 3080ti. However, searching for a fault cost him several weeks. Later, he feels quite embarrassed about the mistake, as he emotionally explains. The community praises him for staying so persistent.
When someone buys a new gaming PC, they usually want to dive right into the latest games without much setup. The advantage of pre-built systems is that you can usually get started right away. While some people are willing to spend a lot of money on a gaming PC, there are also users who cheat to build a good gaming PC themselves.
A gamer also bought a new PC and was very happy at first. But after 2 months, the problems began, leading to weeks of troubleshooting.
Gamer overlooks faulty cable in his 3,000-Euro computer
What exactly happened? A gamer bought a gaming PC for around 3,000 Euros. With an Intel i7-12700k as the processor and a GeForce RTX 3080Ti as the graphics card, he had invested in a high-end system.
However, after about 2 months, his games crashed on his system. There was a black screen, and nothing else happened. In an emotional post on reddit, he explained that he had spent days trying to track down the error. The solution had been so simple that he felt like an idiot looking back.
What was the exact solution? The problem was indeed inside the PC. After opening it, he found out that one of his power cables wasn’t properly attached to the graphics card. Presumably, a cable had come loose from the graphics card without him realizing it.
After he properly secured the cable, he restarted the PC, and the problems were gone. In his thread, he writes that he feels like a fool for taking so long:
Then I go to the graphics card, and everything looks good except for a tiny gap in one of the 3 6 + 2pin connectors on the 2pin side. I felt like a fool, secured it, and restarted. Finally, the game worked properly again, and I immediately regretted not sticking to the basics and checking how the connections looked. After trying for weeks to find a complex solution, it had been so simple.
Community shows understanding and praises his persistence
How does the community react? Other users show surprisingly much understanding for the user. One explains that you surprisingly often have to return to the “basics” when dealing with computers.
Another user tells him: “Persistence is a skill that comes into play not only in PC troubleshooting.”
More gamers with problems: Other players also have issues with their expensive systems. Another gamer also bought a new system, but the frame rate never reached the values that the new hardware should actually achieve:
