A gamer bought a GeForce RTX 4090. But the joy is short-lived, as his game cannot be played at the highest settings. Some in the community are familiar with the problems.
When upgrading their gaming system and purchasing a new graphics card, users typically expect to finally play their favorite games with all details and features. After all, many invest a few hundred euros in hardware.
A user had purchased the current fastest graphics card, a GeForce RTX 4090. But then the problems began.
Other gamers can’t even change their pants without the computer causing problems:
Game does not recognize the 2000-euro graphics card
What is the situation? A user explained on reddit that he had bought a new graphics card. He chose the RTX 4090, which is currently the fastest GPU you can buy.
But when he tried to start the game Fallout 4, he encountered a surprise: It only offers him “Low” as the recommended graphics settings. The problem is quickly identified: the game simply does not recognize his graphics card and then selects the lowest settings by itself.
Why is this a problem? If your graphics card is not recognized by the game, it can lead to a whole range of issues:
- The performance in the game suffers significantly, and you have to play at a much lower frame rate.
- Some features are hidden in the graphics settings, as according to the game, you have no graphics card installed.
- In some cases, the game itself limits the frame rate to about 30 FPS.
Other users explain that they have had similar problems with other games. Fallout 4 also cannot be convinced to set the graphics settings higher. A user writes (via reddit.com):
I wasn’t even sure how I could get the game to run higher than 30fps after I had reinstalled it. It automatically set everything to low because it didn’t know what to do for the 4090, so I set everything to the highest quality setting, but the game was locked at 30Hz, so my GPU was pretty much idle, but the game ran horribly.
The issue is well-known among gamers
Is the problem known? Yes, it is not uncommon for graphics cards to not be recognized in games when the hardware is still very new. There can be various reasons for this.
However, in many cases, the problems resolve themselves after a few weeks or months. Either the developers release an update for their games, or the hardware manufacturers provide an update for their software. Someone writes that at the release of GTA4, it was possible to play with a GTX 1080, the fastest card at the time, but there were problems with support.
In other cases, the games are now so old that the problems can no longer be solved with an update.
The RTX 4090 is currently the fastest graphics card on the market, but the new cards are not as successful in retail as they could be. Scalpers are now desperate because they cannot resell the graphics cards at outrageous prices. This leads to a lot of schadenfreude among players:
