A gamer buys a high-end system, a gaming PC with the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics card. Only a friend then notices that he has been playing for months with far too low performance. The reason for this is a wrongly connected cable.
A new gaming PC is almost always a reason for joy: The FPS in the game increase, everything looks smoother, and many games often look significantly better on a new system.
But sometimes small mistakes mean that you don’t notice that you can’t use the full performance of your system. This has just happened to a gamer.
Gamer uses the wrong HDMI port on PC
What exactly went wrong? Anyone who wants to connect their gaming monitor to their computer usually has to plug the monitor’s HDMI cable into the graphics card. An alternative to HDMI is DisplayPort.
However, many motherboards also offer an HDMI port. This port is needed, for example, when you install a processor with integrated graphics and do not have a “real” graphics card.
The user in question had connected his HDMI cable to the motherboard instead of to the graphics card. Therefore, he played for weeks on his processor with graphics chip and did not utilize the performance of the RTX 3080 Ti at all. A friend of his noticed this, who posted the story on reddit.com, including a picture of the back of the computer:
He tried to install MSI Control Center or whatever and had problems because the apps from MSI, aside from Afterburner, are bad. I tried to help him over Discord when I noticed that he was only playing at 60hz on a 165hz monitor. When we wanted to change this in the Nvidia Control Panel, I realized that the display settings were missing.
When we tried to find out why this was the case, I found out that his screen was using an Intel UHD graphics card, at which point I started screaming and asked him to send me a picture of the back of his case. The rest is history.
Currently, the RTX 3080 Ti is still one of Nvidia’s fastest graphics cards that you can buy for your gaming PC and delivers almost as much performance as the RTX 3090. Especially for high resolutions like WQHD or 4K, this graphics card is worth it.
