A funny clip shows how much the new Halo resembles Destiny 2. And upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that both space shooters have many more similarities.
Microsoft recently let the cat out of the bag and presented a lot of material for the upcoming Xbox Series X. During the event, the two heavyweights Halo Infinite and Destiny 2 with fresh gameplay and trailers were also showcased. To the surprise of many, there is a huge portion of Destiny in the new Halo.
These similarities are quite amusing: A viewer has now compared the new gameplay material from Halo Infinite (via YouTube) with a strike mission from Destiny 2 and is receiving a lot of laughs for it:
In the short clip, the new gameplay material from Halo Infinite can be seen on the left, while a strike from Destiny 2 plays on the right. These similarities cannot be overlooked:
- The bear-like brute and the colossal cabal frog look quite similar and are fought in similar ways – first fully automatic and then the player character prepares for a strike.
- Both enemies wear reddish armor and are greeted by a bright grenade.
- When a shield mechanic activates almost simultaneously on both sides, it gets funny.
- Due to a grenade explosion, both in Halo and Destiny, the opponents die in mid-air.
Destiny and Halo have been compared for years – No wonder, both games originally come from Bungie. It is no secret that the famous Master Chief kind of inspired the Titan class in Destiny. Other references to each other and Easter Eggs keep making players smile.
Even more similarities between the space shooters
This is how similar brutes and cabals are: Aside from the funny video comparison, there are many more similarities between the two enemy races.
Both races rely on rigid military structures. They appear as heavily armored warriors commanding smaller support units – Psion snipers in Destiny and Jackal snipers in Halo, for example.
Escharum, the new Halo antagonist who speaks in the gameplay, has broken away from the actual brute empire. He is now the war chief of the “Banished” and has built up a massive military that threatens humanity – Doesn’t that sound a lot like Ghaul from Destiny 2?
The outsider has also fought his way to the top of the military through violence, toppling the emperor to attack humanity. Both villains enjoy giving speeches like Bane from Nolan’s Batman.
Halo Infinite is increasingly resembling Destiny 2 in gameplay
Will Halo Infinite be an MMO? Last year, MeinMMO asked whether Halo Infinite wants to be like Destiny or Fortnite and go the route of a live-service game. Halo Infinite likely won’t be a full-blown MMO, but 343 Industries confirmed that Halo will be opening up.
Halo Infinite is expected to become an anchor point around which new content will develop after its release. The game will grow like a service game. The game world is also expected to become more open and inviting for exploration.
A “living” world like in Destiny 2 with public events is not (yet) the goal. Even if Halo Infinite won’t really become or wants to become Destiny 2 2.0, many of the similarities are undeniable.
What did you think when you saw the new gameplay for Halo Infinite? Did you also immediately think of Destiny 2? Do you think an MMO guise could actually suit Halo and be an interesting alternative?
