Apex Legends works with both controllers and mouse and keyboard. Usually, users of the respective devices separate strictly. However, a controller user has now shown PC players that you can be really good even without aim assist.
This is what the player delivered: The Apex player and YouTuber Calamiti transitioned from console to PC in Apex Legends. He kept his controller and competes against PC players with mouse and keyboard.
Apex Legends is designed to allow this, but it offers controller users what is called “Aim Assist.” This helps players with controllers aim better. However, Calamiti deliberately disables this feature:
It doesn’t really help me in any situation. I like the challenge of not using aim assist. Besides, keyboard users would otherwise look for the excuse that controller players are only good because of aim assist.
He demonstrates in a nearly 20-minute round that he can do it without aim assist. He gets a total of 26 kills on his own. That’s almost half of the opponents that are present in a round.
Controller vs. Mouse – Why actually?
This is Aim Assist: Aim Assist refers to the game’s help in aiming with a controller. Since controlling with an analog stick is not as precise as with a mouse, the game adjusts.
This means that when aiming, players are roughly pulled more strongly in the direction of the opponent when aiming with aim assist. You could casually say it’s like a “light aimbot,” designed to provide a better gaming experience.
This is the difference between controller and mouse: Many shooters that run on PS4 and Xbox as well as on PC often differ in gameplay. This is because the control with the controller and that with mouse and keyboard offers very different possibilities and options. Some of the special controller options aren’t even particularly well received.
Apex Legends is such a game that also offers controller support on PC. However, most players do not use it as mice generally aim more accurately. Calamiti, however, didn’t care and still performed well.
Although Calamiti did not set a record, it is likely that no one would really care:
