It was a brief pleasure for the players of World of Warcraft. The reward for the 14th anniversary was nerfed just a few hours later.
The joy was immense on the 14th anniversary of World of Warcraft. Because at various vendors in Orgrimmar and Stormwind, players could snag a new toy. The “Overly-Sized Corgi Glasses” became a hit on Reddit and generated numerous screenshots and excitement among fans.
But then Blizzard struck and nerfed the glasses. The outcry among players is great.
What can the Corgi glasses do? The Corgi glasses are a toy with an originally 10-minute cooldown. When used, they transform the appearance of all friendly NPCs and players (including important NPCs like Anduin or Sylvanas) into cute Corgi puppies. The effect originally lasted 30 minutes, so one could experience a “World of Corgicraft” permanently.
What does the nerf look like? A hotfix has quickly turned the values of the Corgi glasses upside down. They now have a cooldown of 30 minutes and only last for 10 minutes. The dream of a permanent world full of puppies has been dashed for now.
Community is angry: In the WoW community, there is the recurring meme “Fun detected – must fix!”, and this example is ripe for it. Players believe that the Corgi glasses harmed no one. Those who want to live permanently in a world full of puppies should be allowed to do so.
This naturally leads to many cynical comments:
- “The new Blizzard wants to control every aspect of your gaming experience. And now go do island expeditions as intended.”
- “The item significantly improved my framerate in cities. Too bad that’s gone now.”
- “Just imagine, something like this is an urgent hotfix, but shamans are still garbage after three months.”
However, there has been no statement from Blizzard regarding the “nerf” of this toy. But we suspect a cat lover is behind it.
Is the Corgi nerf hitting you hard too? Or is it silly to be upset about something like this at all? What do you think, why was the item even “nerfed”?
