The latest patch of World of Warcraft is live. Update 11.1.7 launched with today’s maintenance on 18.06.2025 and brought one of the most controversial features ever in World of Warcraft. Starting today, it is possible to play WoW with just one single button, which takes almost all the work out of combat.
What is this feature? From today you can activate the “1 Button Assistant”. This gives you a new button that you can simply drag into your action bars. Whenever you use this button, a skill will be automatically selected and used. The system is “intelligent” and uses skills that are sensible. It takes into account what buffs you currently have or how many enemies you are facing in combat. This allows for a solid rotation to be played without having to select them manually.
What is the downside? To balance this automation, everyone who uses the feature receives a penalty in the form of an increased global cooldown. You will thus use fewer abilities in the same amount of time than other characters who do not use this feature.
This means: The vast majority of people using this feature will perform significantly worse than those who do not.
Note that this is primarily a feature of accessibility. It is designed to help people who may have physical limitations and can only play with aids. However, it can also be used by anyone who does not enjoy the combat in World of Warcraft and plays the game for other reasons – such as pet battles, professions, or role-playing.
What else is in the patch? Apart from this new feature, the patch also includes some new quest lines revolving around Xal’atath, the Titans, or the former Lich King, as well as a new campaign in the Arathi Highlands.
