Gathering artifact power is one of the most important tasks in World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth. Only with artifact power will the item level of the Heart of Azeroth increase, unlocking new bonuses in the Azerite armor, which includes shoulders, chest, and helm. Starting next week, artifact knowledge will take effect – less artifact power will be needed per level.
In a Developer Q&A, Game Director Ion Hazzikostas spoke about artifact knowledge. This mechanic will soon be activated and ensures that less artifact power is needed to reach the next level.
When will the first artifact knowledge be available? Next Wednesday, August 29, 2018, the artifact knowledge will be activated at level 1. The extent of the bonus and how much less artifact power will be needed per level is not yet known.
More artifact knowledge every week: Subsequently, artifact knowledge will continue to rise every week. This means that, along with the server maintenance on Wednesdays, the requirements for the next level of the Heart of Azeroth will be slightly lower each time. Therefore, if someone takes a break for several weeks, they will be able to catch up to the initial levels much faster.
What is the mechanic for? Artifact knowledge is primarily a catch-up mechanic for new players. This allows them to catch up faster and level up to higher regions, keeping pace with players who have been playing since the beginning. But veterans also benefit from the bonus, as the higher levels are proportionally easier to reach.
