Friendly Fire 8 is over and raised over 1 million euros. However, the Twitch streamers Gronkh, PietSmiet, and 9 others could not quite break the record of Friendly Fire 7. MeinMMO explains how much was raised and to whom the funds will go.
What was Friendly Fire 8? Friendly Fire takes place once a year and is a charity stream. Well-known German streamers and YouTubers raise money for a good cause. The stream ran for about 12 hours on December 3, 2022, and at its peak attracted over 86,000 viewers.
This year, the main sponsor was Bethesda with its game Starfield. MeinMMO explains how much money Friendly Fire 8 was able to raise this time.
Stream raises over 1 million euros, but misses the 2021 record
How much money was raised? Friendly Fire 8 raised exactly 1,087,542 euros on December 3, 2022. However, that does not break the record from the previous year. The stream alone collected over 1,283,704 euros through donations for various organizations.
Additionally, another 600,000 euros came from merchandise like T-shirts. The total amount of merchandise sold in 2022 is not yet known. Sales are still ongoing.
What organizations will receive the donations? The donated sum in 2022 goes to various organizations that will benefit from the funds. Here’s the list:
- Harburg-Huus (homeless aid in Hamburg-Harburg)
- Action Medeor (medical aid organization)
- Blau-Gelbes Kreuz (German-Ukrainian aid organization)
- Dravet Syndrome Association (self-help group)
- LichtBlick Seniorenhilfe (financial support for poor pensioners)
- Federal Association Trans (initiative to support trans people)
- Endometriosis Association Germany (self-help group)
- Friendly Fire Emergency Fund (reserve for emergencies)
How many people were watching? At peak times, over 86,000 people watched the stream simultaneously on PietSmiet’s main channel (via sullygnome.com). Most of the event had around 80,000 viewers at any given time. It was only after midnight that viewer numbers started to decline continuously.
