What does the gameplay in Gene Shift Auto look like? The setting is a Mayhem City, like the one known from GTA. You have to watch out for both other players and cops.
In each round, skills are generated randomly, so you never know in advance what to expect and have to adapt flexibly in your playstyle.
Throughout the game, you unlock additional abilities and get to choose from 3 random skills at each level up, such as:
- Shield
- Bullet Time
- Plasmaball
- Bouncing Bullets
Another important factor that determines life and death in the match is your loot. Within the game world, you search for the best weapon to survive the finale in Battle Royale mode.
A round lasts only 5 minutes, making the game especially suitable for a quick match in between. The play area gets smaller over time, so you will encounter other players sooner or later. You need to win 3 rounds in a row to win the game for yourself.
If you die, you can still participate in the match: as a zombie. If you eliminate another player as an undead, you can revive yourself.

How is Gene Shift Auto funded? On November 28, 2022, the developers of Gene Shift Auto announced on Steam that the game is now available for free. Specifically, the multiplayer mode is now free to play.
The singleplayer/coop survival mode is available for those who own the Deluxe Edition DLC. This was already the case before the change of the multiplayer to free-to-play.
Additionally, there is a notice from the developer: “Anyone who has previously spent real money on the game should automatically have the Deluxe Edition in their Steam account. This is worth 15 USD, just like the game was before. So no one will lose money due to this change. If you do not have the DLC, please contact me as soon as possible via Discord or the Steam forums.
