The dragon shooter Century: Ages of Ashes is out today for Xbox One and will soon be available for PS4 and PS5. The game is free-to-play, and you can compete as dragon riders against other players in epic air battles. MeinMMO introduces you to the title.
What kind of game is Century: Ages of Ashes? The game is a fantasy shooter where you compete as dragon riders in aerial combat.
You can level up your characters and dragons and customize them with equipment.
The game had its Steam release on December 2, 2021. On March 10, 2022, it was released for Xbox Series X/S. Century: Ages of Ashes is developed by the studio Playwing.

Century: Ages of Ashes – This is the dragon shooter
There are several game modes where you can compete against other players:
- Melee: Here you kill opponents for points, which increases the bounty on you. The larger the bounty on an opponent, the more points you get for killing them.
- War Loot: You steal gold from NPCs and enemies. At the same time, you have to defend your own gold.
- Gates of Fire: You need to grab a flag and fly through gates within the game arena. For this, you earn points. Two teams compete against each other here.
- Survival: 18 players in 3 teams compete against each other. The team that remains last wins. A limited number of revivals by team members is possible.
How big are the teams? Matches are played in rounds and in teams ranging from 3vs3 to 6vs6vs6 battles.
What classes are there? In the game, players can choose from four different classes. Each has its own abilities and backgrounds. The options are:
- Windwatch: They belong to the Skeld army and are meant to protect the largest kingdom on the continent.
- Raiders: They are often poachers and ruthless bounty hunters without allegiance to any kingdom. They are good at tracking and hunting their prey.
- Phantom: They are supposedly the only heirs of the first orders of dragon guardians. Their strength lies in stealth.
- Stormbringer: They are spiritual guardians of the Valkyrian Mountains. They have the gift to command storms.
New classes will be added over time to enhance the gaming experience.
How can characters be customized? With each level up, players can further customize their characters and dragons. The items for this can be obtained in-game or through the shop.
Dragons can be equipped with skins, back armors, or saddles. For the riders, there are options for armors, cloaks, or weapons.
In battle, “experience” is also gathered, which can in turn be used to hatch new riding dragons.
All paid skins are purely cosmetic and do not give you any advantage in combat.
How successful has Century: Ages of Ashes been on Steam so far? The reviews are largely positive. Both recent (70% positive from 255 reviews) and overall (73% positive from 12,795 reviews) (via steam, as of 12.07.2022).
What is planned for the future of Century: Ages of Ashes? A release is planned not just for the PS4/PS5 and Xbox One platforms. A mobile version of the game is expected to be released in 2022. The game studio is currently working on it.
Once the console launches take place, Century: Ages of Ashes will feature corresponding crossplay and cross-progression. This allows players across all supported platforms to play together, and their data can be transferred from one platform to another.
