On August 13th, the first of two beta tests for Diablo 2 Resurrected on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC began. This allowed pre-order customers to take a first look at the remaster. Now, the free beta for everyone starts on August 20th. MyMMO tells you everything you need to know about the launch, download, and registration.
Blizzard recently announced the beta of Diablo 2 Resurrected, which will take place over a month before release. There will be two tests: an early access for pre-order customers and an open beta for everyone. We have compiled all the information you need to know if you want to dive into the remaster before release.
Update: Server issues at the start of the beta – We have summarized what the community says about the test of Diablo 2 Resurrected in a new article.
Launch, Registration, Twitch Drops, and Preload for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC
On Friday, August 13th, at 7:00 PM German time, it kicked off. The early access beta runs until Tuesday, August 17th – also at 7:00 PM.
On Friday, August 20th, at 7:00 PM German time, the open beta for everyone starts. It runs until Monday, August 23rd, at 7:00 PM.
Both beta tests are available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A Switch version of Diablo 2 Resurrected will only be available at release.
To play in early access, you must pre-order Diablo 2 Resurrected or the Prime Evil Collection. The standard edition starts at €39.99.
Alternatively, you can watch streamers in the category ‘Diablo 2 Resurrected’ on Twitch on August 13th. After 2.5 hours of viewing time, you will gain access if your accounts are linked. The free open beta is accessible to everyone and does not require a purchase. However, for the open beta on PlayStation, you will need a valid PS Plus subscription – even if you do not want to use the multiplayer features.
From August 17th, you can download the free beta and start playing on August 20th. The early access beta was also available for download prior to release.
For PC and PlayStation 5, the size is about 25 GB (30 GB of storage space is recommended). The PS4 version requires about 10 GB. We do not have numbers for Xbox yet, but we estimate the size will be similar to that of the PlayStation versions. On Nintendo Switch, Diablo 2 Resurrected will require about 10 GB at launch.
Progress and Release of Diablo 2 Resurrected
Can I carry over my progress? Everything you achieve in early access will carry over to the open beta. However, there will be a wipe between beta and release, so you cannot transfer your earned content.
When does Diablo 2 release? The release of Diablo 2 Resurrected is on September 23, 2021, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. You can find everything you need to know about the remaster in our hub:

The Contents of the Beta
Which classes can I play? Of the total 7 classes in Diablo 2 Resurrected, 5 will be playable:
- Amazons – A wild warrior who prefers to throw spears
- Barbarian – A brutal melee fighter
- Sorceress – The classic magic user
- Druid – An ancient fighter who can transform into animals
- Paladin – A holy warrior with the power of light
At launch, the Assassin and the Necromancer will also be added. The Assassin fights with claws in melee combat. The Necromancer uses his powers to raise the dead to fight for him.
Which acts can I play? Act I and Act II will be fully included in the beta, including all cinematics. The final game will have a total of 5 acts, with Baal as the final boss of Lord of Destruction.
Can I play with friends? Yes, the beta will allow cooperative gameplay for groups of up to 8 players. PvP will also be possible in the form of duels. Crossplay is currently not available.
The betas are intended to eliminate the last bugs from the remaster so that the release goes smoothly. So consider them as tests rather than as early access, especially since earned progress will not carry over.
However, you can still use the open beta to get a feel for the remaster or Diablo 2 in general. The second part is considered by the community to be the golden age of Diablo and can be worth it even if you approach it without nostalgia:
