Forums are meant for having discussions and expressing opinions. Some people take it too far and get banned for it, sometimes for quite a long time. However, one user patiently waited to reignite the discussion after 11 years.
What has happened? Something Awful is an American website where one can publish blogs, news, pictures, or reviews. The site is primarily known as a forum where people can discuss all sorts of stuff, always with a humorous undertone. The site is also known for moderators having a lot of power over bans.
As PCGamer reports, a specific user was banned on February 14, 2013, because he wished death upon an author of the role-playing game World of Darkness during a discussion. The user did not receive a permanent ban, but an incredibly long one.
How long was he banned? A mod banned him for 100,000 hours. That’s almost 4166 days, over 11 years. However, the user seems to be a very vengeful person because he waited patiently and returned immediately after the ban to respond to the old post.
This time span is almost as long as the gap between GTA 5 and the announcement of GTA 6: We have been waiting for GTA 6 for so long: This is everything that has happened in the last 10 years since GTA 5
He returned after 11 years
Apparently, the user hasn’t forgotten anything and has constantly thought about the discussion because after 100,018 hours, he returned and simply continued the discussion from 11 years ago. For this, he posted again in the same forum, quoted an 11-year-old statement, and began trolling again.
In his first post after his punishment, he writes that he does not believe that a special rule set of the game will not be released in 2016. However, he is willing to wait. This means he did not discuss as if it were 2024 after 100,000 hours but as if he had never been banned and had traveled back in time. Here he was right, the rule set was released in 2018.
However, he seems to think a lot about the ban, as he explains in a Google Doc document. There, he talks about how he is ashamed of his behavior from back then and wanted to respond to it 11 years later in the spirit of the forum. In the 11 years, he has reflected on himself a lot and changed.
In the doc, he also explains his approach. He has noted the date of his unban in his calendar. On the date, he logged in, wrote the new post, and immediately logged out again. He has no intention of being active in the forum anymore. The new survival game Once Human has a different approach to users who misbehave: Once Human bans 430 players and publicly shames them
