Since the beginnings of Fortnite, a lot has changed and it would also be really fun if we were still noobs who cautiously explore the new features. MyMMO author Eilyn Rapp believes: Fortnite would be more fun than ever if we all just stayed noobs.
This is what it looked like back at the beginning of Fortnite: When Fortnite: Battle Royale launched almost 3 years ago, it wasn’t really anything revolutionary. A shooter from the battle royale genre, which was nothing new either. But something clearly set Fortnite apart: the connection to the building element.
However, this building turned out to be quite difficult, so it was only used when there was no other option. Sometimes a few stairs to overcome a hill or building a wall when being shot at. And it really took a long time to hit the right buttons.
But exactly this effort made the game so fun because you just wandered awkwardly through the map and then stood somewhere for minutes with the building plan in hand. But you weren’t alone in this, as other players also had to cope with it, and watching them was delightful.

Back then, everything was balanced and everyone mostly had the same chances when facing off in a battle. After all, we were all still noobs in Fortnite. Winning wasn’t even rare back then, and so it happened that we won 5 times in a row on some days.
I even achieved a kill record during this time, for which I should actually be ashamed.
Players Got Better and the Game Became Less Fun
Of course, over time you master every game better when you spend time with it. But in Fortnite, there began to be a large gap where some players suddenly became professionals while others still struggled with building. The Creative Mode was introduced, allowing players to practice as they wished, without being disturbed.
Fortnite was no longer balanced, and suddenly you had to face opponents who were much better and mastered the game. This caused great frustration for me, and the game wasn’t as fun anymore.
Skill-Based Matchmaking Should Be the Solution
The new matchmaking system was supposed to bring balance to the game. Players would more likely meet opponents of equal strength. The better you get, the stronger the opponents become. But do you really always face equally strong opponents?
The skill-based matchmaking has its pros and cons. If I play in a group with “noobs”, the game places me with the weaker players. For me, this is a clear advantage since I can rack up many kills and even win. But as soon as the beginner leaves the group, my kills and placements are weighted higher, and suddenly I’m up against much stronger players who can eliminate me in seconds.
This makes the game simply not fun, as I have to think several times if I even want to win a round. After all, I end up back with the “pros” and lose anyway.

Fortnite in Its Current State as Noobs
Imagine we had the current state of Fortnite, but everyone was still at the level of earlier and there was no huge skill gap. Everyone would pursue their own challenges, and maybe we would even hold a dance together instead of being shot at by a sweats who just wants to rack up kills.
All the new weapons, items, and changes we would probably look at with wide eyes and spend weeks until we learned them and it became boring again. We might enjoy the spectacular live events without idiots ruining it with their building skills.
I, for one, would find Fortnite amazing if we were noobs again and could enjoy the game now with the same enthusiasm as we did at the start. What do you think? Wouldn’t Fortnite be much more fun then?
