Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4, iOS & Xbox One) has finally provided concrete information about the official eSports events. Qualifying matches will start this fall, and there will be a major world championship in 2019.
The tournament season is finally here! Fortnite: Battle Royale now has over 125 million players, and many fans are eagerly awaiting an official eSport tournament season. At the big Pro-Am tournament at E3 2018, Epic has finally revealed more information.
2019 will be the big eSports tournament year in Fortnite!
100 million dollars in the prize pool!
What has Epic revealed? As already known, Epic has pulled 100,000,000 US dollars from their pocket and thrown it into the tournament pot. Now it is also known what they want to do with it. The money will be distributed gradually as prize money to the winners of various events during the tournament season.
Planned are:
- Qualifying matches in fall 2018
- Community events
- Online tournaments
- Large-scale competitions like the tournament at E3 or the big World Cup
The World Cup will take place at the end of 2019 and will be the highlight of the Fortnite tournament season.
Solo and duo preferred
As Fortnite expert Ninja once suggested, the World Cup events will take place in solo or duo mode. However, there will also be plenty of opportunities for 4-player squads in other tournament formats.
Fair chances for everyone!
Also important: Qualification for the Fortnite World Cup is solely based on performance. Epic will not sell teams or privileges, nor allow this to third parties. This way, everyone has a fair chance to qualify.
