During the Nvidia Reveal Event, Epic Games announced better graphics for Fortnite. However, this will only be available for PC so far. We will show you what this means for the game and how the graphics will look.
This is the situation: On September 1, 2020, the Nvidia Reveal Event took place, during which they introduced the new GeForce 3000 line of graphics cards. Within the event, Epic Games also announced that the “GeForce RTX ray-tracing features” will soon come to Fortnite.
However, they did not disclose exactly when it will be released during the event. Only that it is coming soon is known so far. The graphics of Fortnite were supposed to be improved in Season 11 to prepare the game for the future.
Better graphics – But for whom?
Which platform will receive the upgrade? This graphics update will affect only one platform, namely PCs. It will ensure that certain visual features are better represented in the game across various categories.
PC players will be able to enable this feature in the Fortnite settings if they want to experience the improvement.
Whether this will ultimately also affect future graphic improvements for the remaining platforms like PS4 and Xbox One is still unclear.
Which graphic features will be improved? The RTX upgrade will ensure that the Fortnite world appears in a “better environment” across 3 different categories. These categories are:
- Shadows (smaller and larger objects cast more natural shadows)
- Reflections (objects like windows show real reflections, not pre-made images)
- Lighting (ensures natural lighting of the times of day, even when they change during a match)
In a short video that Epic Games prepared for this improvement, you can see how these changes will affect Fortnite:
Before these graphic improvements come to Fortnite: Battle Royale, players will be able to test them on a creative mode map. According to Gamesradar, there will be a new RTX Treasure Map for this.
Since this better graphics will only be available on PC, we will likely see how this affects the community. This is not the first time that players from other platforms have been excluded. Just recently, a dispute between Apple and Epic caused iOS players to be left behind in Season 3, while the other platforms moved on to Season 4.
